IE9 confirmed for March 2010

Anyone know 'when' in March its suppose to pop up? Probably has been asked before but to be honest I don't feel like reading the entire thread :(

There wont be released in march, there will be preview on MIX and i guess we might get some beta (technology preview) at this point. Everything more are illusions.... IE9 is far from finished.

Ah okay. I thought it would've been a bad move to release a final product without a public beta/RC.

to be fair... in some respects IE8 isnt finished, not wanting to be a browser basher, but 2 major security flaws in a month? fair enough, if Firefox, Opera et al had IE's market share then im sure theyd get hit badly, but it cant help its reputation

I thought this thread was to discuss IE9...

I actually thought so too! :geek: As far as tabbed browsing as some were mentioning it was IE 7 not 8 that first saw tabbed browing in IE.

The one thing noticed lately with IE 8 to mention here is no longer seeing the ad banners typical of free email accounts ever since one of MS updates was released. Seems to act like a new filter of some type. I'll be waiting to see how IE 9 looks there for things like that as well as how it handles embedded animations and videos on different sites.

For alternate browsers I keep first Opera 9.62 then 9.63 onto 10.10 and 10.10 with Unite that was removed fast. Since I don't use tabbed browsing to start with that leaves FF out while Opera comes in handy with the open in new window option seen. But that's only used if IE for some reason isn't running normally for some reason on some more rare occasions.

Maybe all you people whining how IE is full of bugs and praising firefox etc should read something like this, dont worry, if you dont understand what those events are and who he is, maybe just dont raise your voice next time ;)

I appreciate the different view. I'm certainly not complaining about IE8 - the SmartScreen filter really does make a security difference, and IE8 is a huge improvement over earlier versions - but it's simply too slow/not stable enough for me. FireFox just strikes a nice balance.

And of course, it usually comes down to personal preference, in which case I simply like FireFox more. :)

nah i understand when people argue features and personal prefernace (im first one to admit it lacks some features and some things could be faster), what i just blows me away is when uneducated people see few headlines about IE bugs and they start to argue security... Its like swine flue in computer world, lots of smoke and no fire....

Sometimes I wonder if we are all talking about the same browser. I have found that IE8 is as fast or faster than other browsers, integrates beautifully with Win 7 and renders pages correctly. Where security is concerned, the large number of patches done to IE8 is a good thing. It shows that MS is trying to stay ahead of the curve.

I am sure that for many people, other browsers present some distinct advantages, which is a good thing, as we all have our preferences. However, perhaps it is just my ignorance showing, but I have a hard time believing that anyone knows more about integrating a browser with their OS than Microsoft. Anyway, I am content with IE8 at this time and I am looking forward to IE9.

Anyone tried Maxthon lately? ;)

Anyone tried Maxthon lately? ;)

I used to use Maxthon on my XP machine and liked it but since getting Windows 7 and IE8 I'm quite happy.

I did try it again about a month ago but whether it's a tweak I need to do or something else I found I couldn't use it for my online grocery shopping. I was alright until pressing the checkout button and it would come up with a page telling me I didn't need to go the checkout as my basket was empty  going back to my shopping list it was all wiped out and I'd need to start again.

I just couldn't get my shopping to checkout so I gave up and went back to IE8 which worked perfectly, I'll stick with IE8 as I know that works for whatever site I want to go to and will await the arrival of the new version ;)

I guess Maxthon is now Maxthoff for you now! :D

Most everything these days is orientated towards IE to start with especially any commerce online. I'm just hoping Adobe gets it together with a 64bit Flash Player so I try out the 64bit version of IE 9 once out! That's the drawback with using the present IE 8 64bit. :(

Anyone tried Maxthon lately? ;)

the key word is integrating. the browser should work on top of the os not be integrated into it. the browser should only call up what it needs from the os and other programs. firefox, chrome, opera, etc.... can all be completely removed and not leave any trace. you can only hide internet explorer from sight. i know in 98 and xp to remove ie completely from the os would damage the os itself.

You can remove IE 6 in XP without trashing the OS there. You do need to have the IE SP1 for 6 onhand however since Windows updates utilize IE in the older versions. You would remove IE there on machines where you want no online connection available.

and there in the problem lies. microsoft knew users would not uninstall ie because they knew users still wanted to get to windows updates in xp. then comes vista and once again you cannot uninstall ie completely even though there was a court order to make it possible. and now we have 7 and the best you can hope for is to hide ie. you ignored my main point the browser has no business being integrated into the os. there is no legitimate reason to have it integrated in the os instead of just installing on top of the os.

Depends where you are now! With the EU decision and cooperation by MS you now see a menu of chioces between browsers when installing 7.

For the novice user installing Windows for the first time or buying a new pc for the first time how do you get online without a browser already present in some shape or form? "Gee no browser included.. How do I connect online to get a different one? "

You can only sum a form of "Catch 22" by saying no browser belongs being included in an OS. FireFox comes included with ubuntu! Ice and Konquerer come included with Knoppix and the list goes on for the open source OSs as well there. It wasn't until the first version of Windows to see IE included came along with 95, IE 4.0, that you only first heard from Netscape about IE being already present.

All that is fodder for another thread entirely however since now we are looking at how things will be with IE 9 once that becomes available for download. Having a browser already included in Windows also means you don't have to chase around looking for one any time you go to set a new system or perform a clean install on one. I want to run another browser I still do whether IE is present or not. Simple solution.

i said nothing about not including ie with windows. i said that it does not need to be integrated. there is a big difference. yes after counless comsumer complaints here in the states and the federal courts going after microsoft, microsoft made it possible to uninstall ie from xp. however when vista came out the browser was tightly integrated into the os again, and in win 7 you can only hide it not uninstall it. there is no reason not to have ie run on top of the os and call on the windows resources it needs. i for one hope that ms has finally gotten their act together and deliver a new browser that can actually compete instead of being left behind.

Well to give you one idea of what MS has in mind for IE 9 one of my contacts pointed this to me.

Microsoft to focus heavily on HTML5 for IE9

Internet Explorer 9 may get a beta release with a heavy HTML5 emphasis at Microsoft’s MIX 2010 developer conference in mid-March, according to escaped details. Hinting that IE9 will have comprehensive support for HTML5 is a scheduled briefing at MIX 2010 titled “HTML5 Now: The Future of Web Markup Today.” Opera Software’s Molly Holzschlag will present the party and has said to expect Microsoft to bring browser storage and other HTML5 features.

Another session will focus on scalable vector graphics (SVG), a technology supported by most other browsers and especially those that recognize HTML5. IE Senior Program Manager Patrick Dengler will be the head speaker at the talk, known as “Future of Vector Graphics for the Web.”

Currently, IE8 gets HTML5 capabilities like plugin-free video playback and SVG only thanks to add-on features from third parties. Google’s Chrome Frame is the most conspicuous example and inserts the web engine from Chrome on top of Microsoft’s browser.

Microsoft’s IE team has previously stressed higher JavaScript rendering speeds and CSS support. Standards support has been a talking point, but the company hasn’t said how close it realistically expects to get in compatibility: its earliest version only scored 32 points on the well-known ACID3 standards test where browsers like Apple’s Safari 4 are already known to get perfect scores.

With the rest of that seen at Microsoft to focus heavily on HTML5 for IE9 | Checking Together

IE 8 ships with only a few HTML5 tools. MS now has to emphasize their efforts for 9 to play a catch up role in that regard!

If MS knew it timing, it would not have the competition that it does, and it would have released a browser far better than it now has, long ago. If MS ever gets it right, it couldn't be soon enough.
