Have just put IE9 RC on the laptop (after the desktop) and there are a few things I would like to know.

1. Why is the GUI different on the laptop to the desktop? The laptop has this huge blue space at the top on the level of the min/max buttons and an enormous back button next to the address window that look s like a flipping road sign!! A total waste of space on the laptop.

2. Occasionally opening a tab results in an atersiks or just one letter being typed ad infinitum across the what do you want to look for window which takes shutting down the IE app to get rid of.

3. Why in the name of heaven have they decided to close the app when you get down to one site and not leave it open for you to start another search - really annoying!

4. Plus I definitely don't like the favourites being on the right side as I like to mouse left handed.

Besides it is in my mind slower than the old IE8 I am beginning to wish I had never gone there! Oh dear M$!!:shock:

I'm wondering whether there is such a large vertical space at the top of the IE9 screen because the Back button is so large. And, whether, if one could make the button smaller, the space above it would reduce proportionately.

Similarly, if you put a large image in a line of text in a Word doc, that will increase the vertical space above the line. Reduce the image and you reduce the space.

So, is there some way to reduce the size of the Back button to test this out? I know you can reduce the size of the Start Orb (How to Create Custom Start Orb Image) but what about the Back button?

I think that IE9 GUI is much better than IE8 , IE8 was very cluttered and I didn't like it at all

Hiyya Brummyfan (expat Sussexfan here lol!!) Here is a couple of snips of the same page only I couldn't get all of it fitted in for you to see.

The little green arrow is as you can se on the left of my screen and just plonks the Favourites on the bar - the main Favourites listings are on the right side of the screen in that white star - thats the one I'd like on the left with the green arrow.

The large wide bar and huge Back button I mentioned in my other post is on the laptop which is playing up at the moment and this desktop screen view snip/s are just fine by me except for the favourites position.

I thought that the Back button was larger than the other icons, causing a huge vertical space on top of the screen. How did you get the Back button to be normal size?

Hi ICit2lol, If you are thinking of moving the white star to the left,I don't think it can be done. If you click the green arrow in my pic the Fav listing will appear on the left side of the screen.

I'm so glad to hear that, because I prefer the Windows Classic theme and am so relieved that the huge back button (and resulting vertical space at the top of the screen) won't be an issue.

Ahhhh all is clear!!

Now I can see - my desktop is set to "classic" and my laptop set to Windows 7 basic - hence that awful road sign sized back button and that wasted space at the top (will attach a snip).

After I am going back to classic on little lappy to keep me happy lol!!

Yes mate unfortunately I've tried all sorts of things but in classic, and the 7 basic views it is on the right. Why they need to keep changing the damn thing is beyond me - it's like going into those supermarkets that keep altering the isles doesn't that drive you stark raving (oh that awful wailing woman musiclol!!)

Hmm, here's a snip of my IE9 RC - looks kind of different from you guys. I suppose it's up to you to customize its appearance.
