IE9 Multiple Home pages - Home icon disappears

I generally have about 6 or so home pages that can change quite frequently, and since upgrading to IE9 it has been much more difficult to manage them.

The Home icon is not always present, depending on which shortcut I use to open IE9. And the down arrow next to it is generally not there. I've tried turning on the Command Bar, which helps but takes up more screen real estate than I'd like, because I have quite a few items in the Favorites bar. Is there anyone that has found a better way to manage the homepages?

If you pin a website to the taskbar and then open IE from there, the home button isn't displayed on the right hand side. Instead, your home button will be the favicon of the website on the left.

You can also decrease the space items in your Favorites bar use by right clicking on a bookmark, customize title widths, Icons only

Thanks for clearing that up. Yes, the problem appears when I open IE from an icon that I pinned to the Quicklaunch toolbar.
And I never even noticed that added icon that appears on the left side when the home icon disappears.

So is there any way to manage my real homepages when IE is opened this way? Even if I enable the Command toolbar, the dropdown from the Home icon shows the incorrect homepages, so I can't delete unneeded ones. I am trying to avoid having to wait for all eight homepages to open when I click on the regular icon, just so I can delete some of them.

I'm not really sure. At one point I used to have multiple homepages that all opened at once, but that was back in the days of IE8. I got used to having those homepages in the Favorites bar, and shoving all other bookmarks across folders, clean and organized.

Hi Vincenzo, I am running IE9 and I too have a number of Home Pages enabled under the Home link, (and it's one of my favorite features also). In my IE, the settings work perfectly, so I think the problem may be with your IE, rather than this particular feature. Why don't you try experimenting with some of the Home settings in Tools, Internet Options, Home Page. First I would try "Delete" so that hopefully you can delete them all and then start again. If that doesn't work I would reset ALL of my IE settings to the default, and re-set all of your customizations. And, if that doesn't work, and if these settings are important enough to you, you can always uninstall IE and reinstall it. A pain, I know, but for me, frankly, it would be worth it because I go to these Home Pages many times every day.

PS Just for clarification, I have my Command Bar enabled because I prefer to access the Home Pages from there --- just gives me more options.

Have you tried pinning a website to the taskbar, and then opening IE9 from that link? Does your "regular" Home icon disappear?
And then click the down arrow on your command bar Home icon, and see if that looks different.

Nope I haven't, and am not planning to. I'm perfectly happy with having the Home Page link on my Command Bar because I use my Command Bar every day for all kinds of functions. Couldn't live without it!
