IE9 safe?

Hi all.

Currently running IE8 in W7 64-bit. No problems, but was thinking about gong with IE9. I remember hearing some horror stories a while back, and a number of people said that they were sorry they upped, and wished they could go back to v8.

Is it safe to go to v9 now, or is there anything I need to be concerned with? Would like to know what I am up against - if anything - before I take the plunge.

Nothing is 100% safe but IE9 is much safer than its predecessors. There are a few changes that you will have to adjust to (can't remember what they were now; old age sucks) but if this stubborn old Luddite can, pretty much anyone can. I liked it better than IE8 from the word go. If you run into a snag, just post it here and someone will help you out.

Did the upgrade (if it's even considered that) and all is fine so far. I just remember hearing these horror stories from some people - but again, that was shortly after v9 was introduced, so maybe all of the issues have been ironed out.

Judging from the way you worded your question, it sounds like you are not concerned about browser safety but about whether you might regret "upgrading". My only bad experience has been with Windows 7 on 32-bit systems for which "hardware acceleration" was turned off and was greyed out since IE9 decided that my PCs had to be limited to software rendering (1.9 GHz, Intel GMA500 integrated graphics). Oddly enough, Vista running on an older less powerful computer did not have the same "IE9 hangs" problem. I continued to try it on one machine up until last week when I started a new trial of Win8/IE10. The IE9 hanging problem seemed to be related to the websites visited. During the trial a couple of my favorite sites were completely revamped and after that and they stopped hanging. Too many sites continued to hang that I cannot recommend IE9 on Win7/32-bit. (What makes it worse is that I had a lot of work to do bring IE8 back working properly on my main system, otherwise I'd say try it. So if you have time to do maintenance work on your PC after a bad IE9 experience, I'd say go ahead and try it. Good Luck!)
