IE9 Will Change the Web Forever

With the capabilities of even the newer low end model video cards compared to years back when everyone ran a single core cpu you can see some immediate benefits. The test drives show a good deal of what is being pointed to as far as presenting animations of how the graphics will work in the demos JMH linked earlier.

The only drawback for IE 9 is that will require at least Vista if not since XP is not on the supported list. That will leave those still running the older version out of the loop so to speak. But that's progress! When you want any you have to move forward not backward to get there.

Sounds pretty intriguing to me, I'll give it a try once it hits the beta stage. But what really gets me excited is that other browsers might jump this bandwagon; it'll be interesting to see how Mozilla, Google, Apple, etc. will use this feature and make their browsers even better!

I was also glad to hear it wasn't going to hit XP. Like Nighthawk said, you have to move forward, not backward for progress!

see... now im torn... it sounds great... but i don't like IE.... ARGH! i can already see what will happen... i will try it out, and completely miss all of the greatness because ill be obsessing over stupid little things, like the damn stupid condensed toolbar at the top... but thats just me, im sure it will be great, but i can't see it making me switch

If opening a new tab is faster in IE9, I would be most pleased. An additional expectation is that better stability when more add-ons are added.

The thing is is that right now these features are all well and advanced, but by the time IE9 is released (1 year, right?), I'm sure all the other browsers will have caught up. IE's development cycle is very slooooow compared to Firefox and Chrome.

Also what if there is no GPU? Won't you have problems if you have an integrated graphics card? (Not me though)

The title is a little bit misleading being more typical hype. But you have to take into consideration the leading role MS has played in the greater extent over the years. With that in mind you then look at how Adobe, SUN, and other software companies as well as web developers have to work in stride with each other to keep things more or less standardized.

The thing is is that right now these features are all well and advanced, but by the time IE9 is released (1 year, right?), I'm sure all the other browsers will have caught up. IE's development cycle is very slooooow compared to Firefox and Chrome.

One of the main differences between the open source community and MS is that anyone can submit an improved version of something while MS will release updates for the same version to address the same things rather then seeing an IE 8a, IE 8b, IE 8c series of releases.

With Opera for example that would see a 9.62 then 9.63 onto the 10.01 and now 10.5 with Unite. As far as using IE 9 seeing enough support for integrated grpahics such as with laptops, netbooks, and desktops(premade or custom) where no separate video card is installed MS would be sending the early stages to each OEM manufacturer for testing and further feedback to see working results.

That's where the time consumption is seen mainly. Finally the beta arrives that can be released to the general public once it has progressed far enough to see an evaluation stage for consumer review and feedback there.

Slow and careful however is always far better then "haste makes waste"! Give me a working browser! Thank you!

A lot of users are more inclined to 'tolerate' a few bugs and subsequent patches in newer browsers than wait for a fully working new 'old faithful' browser.

Ultimately though, regardless of who incorporates this technology into their browsers, the end result is a richer browsing experience for everyone no matter what platform they use.

You certainly wouldn't want to "take forever" in order to stay on top for sure! Typically however each new version of IE just happens to proceed the next new version of Windows like IE 7 did with Vista and then onot IE 8 before 7's release. IE 9 would obviously be scheduled to proceed W8 in the MS tradition there.

Every 8 weeks or so until the beta is seen you should be seeing a new set of test drive previews. Keep a watch for the next batch.

a little off topic but not by much i remeber when apple computers used IE as there only browser. back on topic it will be interesting to see if Microsoft can change the web. and for once have a browser that is fast and more stable.

The fruit barrel had a 5yr. agreement with MS to have IE as the default browser back in 1997. Those were the IE 2.0, 3.0, 4.0, and 5 versions still seeing the same code base. MS ended all support for IEMac at the end of 2005. Internet Explorer for Mac - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I think they will be needing a new one once IE 9 reaches the final stage.

The thing that will be most interesting however is seeing the actual minimum requirements as far as graphics processing capability is concerned since that will play a role for those running laptops, netbooks, and desktops lacking a separate expansion card relying on the onboard vpu. I think this is the one area that has everyone intrigued the most due to now seeing hidden potentials being explored.

First we see 7 start utilizing vpu power in sync with the cpu for boosting performance with older as well as lower end video cards plus helping a bit with integrated graphics. For IE MS now wants to be somewhat of a trend setter by being the first to explorer vpu power applied to the web.

If they actually prevail at the end of the day this will have lasting effects on web browsing for a long time to come despite what is seen with other browsers in general. Improvement in performance and stability should be the side benefit. The patches and updates would be made up for that.
