I'm beginning to use Bing more than Google now, so how do I say.....

When using Google and I wanted to tell someone I did a search using it I would say, I googled it. It is a phrase that is well known and used.

However, because I am now using Bing more than Google because of privacy concerns, would I say I bingd it?

I can "see" why you would suggest that but to represent the past tense in English you just need a 'd', right? Besides, adding the eld to bing would be making it a completely other word (?).

Please, I am just thinking out loud, NOT making any judgements. Your idea is as good as any.

What about bing-d? I don't think it would catch on because folks are more inclined to to shorten words and the hyphen might be too laborious a task for them.

You are the first person that has ever said they use Bing more than Google...at least first person that has said it in a forum.

I would then be a +2 - I've found for just about everything, Bing is no better or worse than Google. I've gotten out of the habit of mechanical searching with keywords and gone more natural language, which helps - Google seems to be worse at this, and Bing better. I also prefer Bing's translator and related items / related searches built in, although I still prefer Google's maps (although Bing maps are growing on me - it's just like search, it's been a learning curve / comfort zone to break to switch...).

Yes, I have joined the Bing Club too. It is the default search on my primary IE9 browser and I have been quite impressed with it as of late. As for making a verb out of it, I think that 'Binged' would work.

From those of you who have replied I think I think the capital letter B is a good idea.

Concerning the ending: in English, the sound of the suffix ed is pronounced d. Isn't it?

Would you agree that we have narrowed it down to either Bingd or Binged?

binged - definition of binged by the Free Online Dictionary, Thesaurus and Encyclopedia.

I am a full convert to Bing-a-ling-a-doo-ski and I'd feel real fine telling my friends and family that I just "banged out some fascinating articles on local church organizations, would you like me to bang out a few blogs on the subject, it's not a problem, i mean the thing practically bangs itself once i start typing"

sure it's not directly translated, but how does one change between verbs, nouns and tenses when the base is the sound made when you hit a wine glass for a toast.......bad preplanning on BING's part

I'm not sure I know what you are saying.

However, using the same source as Corazon, we can see a bit of a correlation between what we are talking about here and what happened with the corporate name Xerox. Although clearly the name of a company it was soon used as a verb.

xeroxed - definition of xeroxed by the Free Online Dictionary, Thesaurus and Encyclopedia.


People began saying, "can you xerox this for me", or I xeroxed it, for example. Just as folks are now saying I googled it.

It's really a non-issue but I just thought today about using I Bingd it (using the suggestion by Gornot). If nothing more it will stir some interest and spice up whatever I am writing (or saying, for that matter).

Some flashback from English lessons during my school years a couple of centuries ago... An important topic, let's create a rule for this, all together .

Here's my suggestion, some search verbs in past tense:

• If the name of the search engine ends with an E, let's just add D
  • Googled > I Googled it.
  • Btjunkied > I Btjunkied it.
• If the name of the search engine ends with any other letter, let's add ED
  • Yahooed > I Yahooed it.
  • Binged > I Binged it.
  • AltaVistaed > I AltaVistaed it.
  • AllTheWeb(b)ed > I AllTheWeb(b)ed it.
  • AskMeNowed > I AskMeNowed it.

Present & future tense = the name of the search engine:

• Please Bing it
• I suggest you Yahoo it
• I am going to AskMeNow it

It looks a little incorrect to me because I think of ed as pronounced the same as the name Ed and not d. But in fact the pronounciation is bing'd. Right?

Like in any other word that has voiced final sound b, g, Ω(j), l, m, n, r, ∂(th), v, z, + vowels (funny, had to change font to Arial to get those phonetic characters!).

For instance liked, dished, laughed, stopped etc.

Kari, my gut feeling is that we should go with Bing'd. It's not grammatically incorrect.

I think Bing'd takes the guest work out of what is being said; people see the word Bing and that makes it easier for them to understand what the person is talking about.

I have doubt's that Bing will ever be well known and used by enough people that it will enter common usage.

I prefer Google it has much better search options the advanced search in Bing is not very advanced.
Seems like even Microsoft prefer the Google search engine
