I'm sick of Mozilla Firefox. I love the add-ons and compatibility with Norton Internet Security. Maybe the Norton interface is what's interfering with it. But Firefox is a resource hog, stumbling and jerky even when I just want to scroll through a page. It hesitates when I type in a forum text editor. I had to modify the auto-save interval just to smooth out Youtube from constantly hesitating, but it still does sometimes.

Anyone else have this trouble with the latest versions? I happily used Opera until one particular favorite forum, and only that forum would not work correctly with it. But I never did feel it was as secure as with Firefox, so I switched several years ago. But I'm fed up with FF now. What browser do you prefer?

Thanks, Thrash. Maybe I'll go back to it. I actually still have 9, maybe I should upgrade to 10. I do like the Speed dial page that FF and Opera have.

I'm using FF 24, but I'm not too excited about it. I use few add-ons and would prefer to use none at all.

I don't like Mozilla's habit of constantly releasing new FF versions, so I'm reluctant to go beyond the FF 24 that I now have.

Haven't used IE in 5 years or so.

I suspect browsers are mostly something you just have to endure and grit your teeth and take it. They all have issues as far as I know. I hear about things like Pale Moon, but don't really want to exchange one set of problems for another.

I never liked FF either. I only use it in Linux because there it is the default. In Windows, I have IE (primary), Chrome (because it is fast for finding stuff) and Opera (a bit slow but elegant).

I use Pale Moon. It's a fork of Firefox 24 ESR and it's optimized for Windows systems. It doesn't have any of the memory problems of Firefox and there's also an x64 version! It also runs way faster than Firefox. It also doesn't have the rapid release schedule as it's more or less based upon version 24 ESR. You should give it a try.

Browser preference

I don't have a clear preference - it depends upon what type of browsing I want to do.

Mostly I use Cyberfox 64bit AMD version with no Java installed but I've tweaked it so it's not running on default settings.

Secondary browser is Opera 64bit portable version - no java and also tweaked.

IE is installed but almost never used. I much prefer SlimBoat (IE based) - it's a stripped down version of SlimBrowser although the wealth of configuration options is probably hard for new users to get to grips with.

I never use Chrome but sometimes make use of SRWare Iron - it's pretty much the same thing but without the privacy issues.

Then I use SGMobile browser if I ever want to browse WAP sites (those designed for mobile phones).

I've heard that people who have performance issues with Firefox report that CometBird runs well. It's a FF based browser and I've used it in the past but it's not currently installed.

So my answer is that I try to avoid Firefox, IE and Chrome and use alternatives. I'll try any browser except Sleipnir - the number one browser in Japan apparently. It's based on IE with English versions available. Tried it and hated it!
