Image data partition only - Windows7 imaging

Has anybody figured out how to make an image of a data partition with Win7 imaging without it dragging the whole system partition along?

Hi Wolfgang -

You can do this from an elevated Command Prompt using:

WBADMIN START BACKUP -BACKUPTARGET:G: -INCLUDE:E:

I just used this to backup Image of my data partition E to external storage G

To avoid requests for user input during backup, end the command with -QUIET

The hitch is that this reimages to the same offset as original, per usual Win7 Imaging limitations.

Sure, use Acronis True Image or Macrium Reflect Free

Tho I haven't tried it to a different HD, you should be able to restore to another partition using the restore commands from pe3 boot media.

That sounds great - thanks guys. For my "experiments" I did not want to image the system but only a test partition - which is simple with Macrium. I wonder why MS always has to make simple things complicated. But having worked for IBM for 35 years, I think I know the system - LOL.
