Image failed: Not enough space on target

Hello

I' trying to create an image of my SSD disk on a network Hard disk. The targeted disk as 1.2 TO free space and the image is 9.2 GB

The imaging process is stopped with a message that I don't have enough spaces on the targeted disk while I got more than I need.

- Any idea?

- Is it a good manner to create an image on a network disk? If not how should I do it.

Arjfca, I do not recommend saving an image to a network drive, Mostly because of the slow speed of most networks and the network permissions problems.

I recommend an external USB type of drive that is formatted NTFS. I also use Acronis for my backup software and have never been disatisfied. Some use the free Macrum imaging sofware and there are a couple of others that are mentioned here. I think the money is worth it to insure that I can make and recover backups.

Windows imaging software requires that it create files and directories in the root directory of the target drive and that could be your problem with your image and the not enough space message.

Few questions that I got

- Witch version of Acronis do you recommend?

- How can I measure or qualify the hard disk size that I need for the image. My actual SSD drive is 120GB and my actual HD is 640 GB. I would say that I use only 20% of my entire capacity. No game, No heavy Internet usage

- How often is an Image as to be done

- Should I Image backup my data also or the actual network backup is sufficient

I'm completely green in the backup domain any information truly appreciated

I presently have Acronis 2013 which works great. I have created and restored images about 3 times..
I make an image about once a week. I have 5 small USB drives which 2.5" disks in them that I rotate my backing up the C and D drives from my laptop.

The nice thing about Acronis is that I can place and name the image file most anything that I wish. and put it in a special sub directory on the external usb drive. I have a directory for each of my laptops which makes restoring them easy.

An image backup does the whole C drive if you do it properly. Even the data that is in sub directories. I also image my D drive where I keep most of my data.

I have been with acronis for quite a while and the version 2013 seems to be pretty darn good.
I buy mine from the User Group relations site for a good price. I paid $60 for 3 copies. but then I am a member of a user group. ugr.com is their site and I don't have any financial connection, just know the people involved for over 25 years.
