Solved Image your system with free Macrium

It is a matter of personal choice really. If you are happy with 4.2 then stick with it until Macrium drops support for it. I think I said in an earlier answer that I generally like to use the latest versions of software that I use as I am then certain of continuing support and can take advantage of any new features. In this case there don't seem to be many new features that are applicable to the free version except for the creation of a PE disk from the WAIK. It was to get a PE disk that I originally bought v4. If the Linux disk can see your backup drives or you can use the PE version in the Hirens boot CD then that is no real advantage.

There you go again, what is a Hirens boot CD. I know I made a linux boot Cd when I installed 4.2, is that it? It seems to have worked several times in the past. I do like the Winpe boot disk in Paragon, but it works but doesn't show the correct information.
I did make the Winpe Macrium disk when I installed v5.0 the first time. I also like to have the most updated software. Maybe I'll give it another shot, it will be better supported at least.
Great explanation and opinion!!

I can't install this. I run the reflect_setup_free installer, click next to extract and install, it extracts and then disappears. It's process stays running with 0% cpu usage.

Problem solved: Turns out the installer was corrupted.

It would be useful if you could post a full picture of your Disk Management and tell us which of the partitions you want to image to your 250GB Iomega. The images may fit because they take only about 55% of the original space due to compression.
Once we can have a look at your Disk Management situation, we will advise you with further details.

SOMEWHERE on here, I saw how to make those "full pictures" of my screen but dang if I can find it now! Someone wrote out a full page of "how to" do that and I thought I bookmarked it for later. Guess I didn't after all. Let me search the forum and see what I can come up with.

In the meantime, I did manage to get rid of MOST of the shadow images (not all though, which was kinda weird) and was able to completely back up my entire HD onto the Iomega 250GB HD. I wanted all my photos are on the Iomega and so far, it looks like they're all there! Yippee! That is all I wanted to do anyway.

I have been wondering if there is any significant value in upgrading from V4.2 (free) to V5 (free) at this stage. The pe disk isn't really an issue.
Any opinions?

I upgraded and made a Linux boot disk in compatibility mode.

It won't boot. Didn't exactly impress me. Nothing peculiar about my system.

I had no problem making a working Linux boot disk with the earlier 4.2.

I made a Win PE disk with 5.0 and it does boot.

I guess I'll stay with version 5.0. As I understand it, my version 4.2 Linux boot disk should work on 5.0 and be able to restore an image made with 5.0?? I'd like to keep it around as another way to boot if my Win PE boot disk goes bad for whatever reason.

Hello Oubadah and welcome to Seven Forums. I not totally familiar with Raid0 but as far as Macrium is concerned Imaging is is making a backup as you would with Windows Imaging and Cloning is making an exact copy of the disk on another one, overwriting anything on the target disk. It is like doing an Image followed by a restore to the new disk although that is not the way it does it.

Oh nice thank you.
But I think it is only for Linux. Is there similiar one for Win 7?

I see there is windows in backets but they say include "distributions", arent those Linux distributions?

Not really. You can boot windows ISOs with it. Mine has a Windows Repair ISO and a Macrium WinPE ISO along with many other utilities including Hirens (Note at the moment there is a thread here which is talking about the latest Hirens being infected). If you use it for the windows repair disk follow the instructions for a Windows 7 Installation disk otherwise it will complain about wanting to repair the boot sector. The Macrium WinPE ISO can be just loaded as "Other ISO".

I know, last time I used Hiren was in version 6!!

-Can I add Gparted to YUMI?
-If I want to use Macrium, must I use WinPE ISO(of Macrium)?
-How do I convert a program to be bootable, so I will be able to put it on YUMI?

I know not all the ISO files will be bootable before windows, or am I wrong?

I use Xboot, which is akin to YUMI, and it boots every .iso file I've thrown at it, including of course Macrium but also recently Puppy Linux, so I've no doubt it will do GParted (included in puppy btw).

No you could add the Linux ISO I think. There is a Wizard with YUMI that will allow you to download and install many tools. If Gparted is not one of them you just need a bootable ISO and install it as "Other ISO"

(Note at the moment there is a thread here which is talking about the latest Hirens being infected).
Would you please give a link.
My search results (both on Seven and Google) show the use of Hirens to fix malware,
and I would like to know what I am getting into if I download it now.
