I burned a disk using this program, and found that the DVD that was produced was readable by only 3 out of 4 of my optical drives. Since I've never experienced a problem like this before, and I don't understand how the software could create such a problem, I need to see if anyone has any insight into this?

It's not really a problem for me personally, but the disk contains some software that I want to give to a friend, and I don't have access to his machine, and want to maximize the odds that it will work on his.

Since the dvd is readable by 3 of the 4 drives, I would wager the issue is a faulty drive. Optical drives, particularly older ones, can be finicky. Some things you can try:

1) Try updating the firmware for the faulty drive (Are you burning BD disks?)

2) Try burning in the faulty drive at the lowest speed possible, or use a different brand media or use a different type of media (-R, +R, RW etc.).

3) Use rewritable media to do a sufficient no. of burns on the faulty drive, to check whether its a one-off problem.

4) Test a software other than IMGBURN.

I shall try your suggestions, but it appears that there is no new firmware for the drive, and I couldn't find a support listing for it, because it is not an old drive, it is one of my later purchases.

I may just give the disk to my friend and keep my fingers crossed, because it may take some time and effort to really solve the problem.

As pparks1 had mentioned it could be the media and (media+burner) combination issue.

It is always better to use the best media for reliability and long-life.

Taiyo Yuden is my media of choice. I typically order from supermediastore.com. And I go with the 8X media as my burners go up to 12X anyways when they read the media ID tag. They are $29.50 for a 100 pack of the 8X premium line;

Since the disk that I was trying to burn was for a friend, I took a chance and gave him the disk anyway, thinking that it was likely that it would work on his machine, but it didn't. I'm going to have to dig deeper.

I use Imgburn as well.
Presumably the verify stage worked?
Wouldn't this support your view that it a DVD writer issue. Maybe a borderline alignment problem.
Can you calibrate DVD writers or do you dump them?
