Hey, I'm downloading a game from Origin and my speed has shot up to 12mb/s, now I know that is impossible because the max I can ever get is 2.3mb/s.

Here is my router's page shown next to the download to prove that it is impossible lol.

At first it was downloading at my normal speed but it just gradually went up and then hovered around 8mb/s to 12mb/s for about 5minutes then it went back to normal again around 1.5mb/s.

What happened ? How is this possible ?

Thanks,
Danny K

This might not be the answer, though I have seen similar events.

Your d/l speed is a little down for your attenuation (but that might be because if the way your modem synchs with your exchange), and would indicate you're about 1.0 - 1.5 km from your exchange (or sub exchange if you use RIMs in the UK). With a SNR of 5.6 you must have good line quality to have a stable connection at that SNR (Typically ISPs aim for an SNR of around 6.0).

When data gets cached you can see speeds that look unrealistic. This data can be cached on your PC (If you have previously downloaded, or started to download something), or at some point close to you.

Eg. Some ISPs cache large amounts of data to give the impression they are providing better services than they really are.

Just my observations. There is probably a better explanation for this.

Hmmm it would make sence lol.

The exchange is 0.4 miles away but you know the wiring could be messy. I really want fibre optic :(

For 0.4 miles you should be getting better synch rates that 19mbit, indeed it should be closer to 23mbit. Still, that doesn't help with your original question.
