in game resolution error - displaying resolution way less than 1080p

Hey guys ...m banging my head with this issue...i have an ati radeon hd 5850 and samsung syncmaster 2233SW monitor....in the games the resolution being displayed is very low, somewhere in the 1280 x 1024 type of regions...though in the game settings its showing 1920 x 1080 ...please help...drivers are latest...11.12 amd vision engine control center


btw my desktop resolution iv put at 1280 x 800 ...wen i put it at 1920 x 1080 in the desktop d sides of the screen get cut...evn my monitors auto adjustment function doesnt help...

is it every game? or just specific games? and are those games old?

the reason i ask is older games aspect ratio is 4:3 not the modern widescreen 16:9 so resolutions will always look odd/funny when you set the games to a 16:9 resolution.

what cables are you using to connect the gpu to the monitor, and would you mind filling out your system spec on the left hand side under your post count so we can have a badger (get it??) at anything else that maybe the issue.

its with new games such as Call of Duty Black Ops and Just Cause 2...they all support 1080p...newayz yesterday i tried by installing old drivers for my gpu and the resolution got better at 1680 x 1050 i think...and fit the screen...at 1920 x 1080 d sides i cudnt see...evn my desktop was stretched too much....and all of this happened suddenly, this whole error...i changed no settings, just 1 morning i launched cod bo...n it happened...i reckon bout 3 days back...i hav an analog cable that connects my monitor to d gpu that came wid d card...and i hav dis pc for 2 yrs nw...worked fine...couple of weeks back removed xp n put 7...workd fine till dis random error...
