In your opinion, Is RC-7100 any better?

I'm currently running Build 7068,
I downloaded RC-7100, the leaked version that came out a week ago.
First is there any difference between the leaked version and the release that came just yesterday.
Second, is there going to be any difference in the public release thats coming out on May 5th and with the release that came out yesterday.
And last, did you find any improvements from Build 7068 and RC-7100?

Sorry for all these questions, I used to reinstall Windows 7 everytime a build came. But now I'm just tired of installing the programs and redoing the settings over and over.

meh...nothing that really stands out, like WOW, that's cool!

I'd still get and install 7100 from Microsoft on May 5th anyway. Being for one, that it is the Official Windows 7 RC, you'll have the satisfaction of knowing it's official and that you'll get updates like as with the beta build 7000. And also knowing the fact that it is an absolutely safe build with no possible malicious manipulation, not saying your build isn't safe but at least you'll know for sure. And of course there have been minor tweaks and improvements in performance and compatibility from 7068 to 7100. Just my personal opinions, I think you should d/l and install the RC on the 5th. :)

The performance is about the same really IMHO. However you do get the 7100 RC build, leak, from MSFT, whatever, if the ISO hashes and CRC match, then you are good to go. It's best to be on 7100 anyway so that you are on a level playing field with most of the Windows 7 users.

I'm pretty happy so far. Haven't got everything installed and set up yet, but going pretty well so far. My WEI for the processor and ram came down from 7.1 to 6.9 each. Overall score is the same. At first file transfers were quite slow, but that seems to have fixed itself. All the updates are in. Still can't drag and drop a word doc onto the pinned icon on the taskbar and have it open. Funny it works with a program I still use from 2001 but not with Office 2007. Go figure.

I running it on a Dell Latitude D830
With a Nvidia NVS 140 gfx card.

In the beta it gave me BSOD daily - but in RC, it works perfect.
And I have done nothing with the drivers.
So it is greate to have!

Hi all
apart from a glitch in installing via UPDATE (had an incompatable driver which had to be uninstalled first) and a little bit of slow (by W7 standards) boot times for the first 2 or 3 boots it's fine. (This is until the indexing etc sorts itself out). Once it "steadies down" it's fine.

A TV application that didn't even work on build 7077 worked fine and there's now the option to set a VISTA SP2 compatability mode option when installing drivers and programs.

This seems to make a few more programs work although what SP2 compatability does that that SP1 or even basic VISTA compatability did I haven't a clue -- but that's the "magic" of Windows. :D

Incidentally don't take the WEI as "Gospel". I'm very suspicious of these type of "Performance tests". On one machine I've got a DUO T7250 processor giving as nearly as good rating on the CPU test as a QUAD Q9400 on a decent MOBO.

I don't need this type of test to tell me which machine IS faster by far -- no contest.

If things like the MOBO, chipset, memory speed etc are taken into account when running a "CPU" test then this test should be flagged as an "Overall" system test.
I'd really like to know what the WEI actually does and what the results really mean.

A CPU test IMO should simply be like the BHP (Brake Horse Power for the more mechanically challenged) of a car engine . How that engine performs when installed in different cars or different configurations is another test completely and should again IMO be labelled clearly as to exactly what is being tested.

cheers
jimbo

What it basically means is they are hoping it will p*s* naive people off and make them believe their computer is crap because it does not have 7.9 throughout the spectrum and as a consequence go and spend more money. The wei means absolutely nothing in my book.

As for the op thread question then yes it is better in every way with regards to stability and performance (at least for me). More so now that I have installed the new 185.81 drivers from nvidia.

I was able yesterday to make the Netgear configuration utility for Ethernet wall adapter using Windows Vista SP2 compatibility mode.

I wasn't able to make it work in january. So maybe they improved their compatibility mode.
