Solved increase sound ?

hello does any one know how to increase the system sound please ?
i have got an Acer Aspire 5536 laptop and when i use Ubuntu on a dual boot i can go to the volume icon and right click which takes me to system preferences and i can increase the sound,there must be a way i can do this on the Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit system ?

Hi GeordieJohn, welcome to the forums.

Yeah, if you click on the logo next to the time in the bottom corner that will give you the volume.



Or if you go start, in the search box type volume and should be the first option.

i have used that to put to 100 % but it must be something about my laptop that even on 100% it is not enough,the sound is ok when i use Ubuntu as i have increased to over 100 %
there must be a program for Windows that will do what Linux does ?

Ah, i wondered if thats what you meant.

I am afraid that Windows 7 has a particular limit on volume, unlike the xp days where it was a lot higher.

Or find yourself a USB sound card.

As a test have you tried shutting down your machine then log onto the Windows OS, and check if the sound is okay?

There is a possibility that Ubuntu is not properly releasing the resources of the sound card after a restart from Ubuntu.

It would help to know what version of Ubuntu you are running.

You could also try running the 'Playing Audio' troubleshooter while you are in Windows in:
Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Troubleshooting.

thank you i am using Ubuntu 11.04 and i have done trouble shooting,i will look into usb sound card or maybe get some external speakers.

You CAN get increased volume at least while utilizing a video player.
VideoLAN - VLC media player - Open Source Multimedia Framework and Player – can boost sound up to 400% when watching videos with VLC

The windows default driver allows for Loudness Eq.
The box must be checked.

For MAXIMUM VOLUME, go to Control Panel, Sound (or Hardware + Sound, then Sound), and select Playback. Double-click “Speaker + Dual Headphones” and select Properties, then Advanced, and set the ‘Default Format’ drop-down menu to: 16 bit, 48,000 Hz (DVD quality). You can Test each of the different choices to make sure that’s the loudest.

Then, if you have RealTek HD Audio Manager (or equivalent), open it and click on Speakers, and follow on-screen directions to increase volume.

Once done, go to Control Panel + open IDT Audio, Playback, Select “Speakers and Dual Headphones.” Follow on-screen directions for Settings, Setup and Equalization.
