This is nothing I've heard of before. I was backing up a netbook to the server tonight over wireless G and the netbook rebooted in the middle of the process. It was sick, we know that but what we didn't know is that it resumes the file copy process? Any more info or am I just daft right now? I'm trying to work out just how this works? Shadow copy? Needless to say I'm going to research it in it's entirety. Anyone seen this?

Why is this not touted as a feature?

From first assessment it seems that the "reboot" after license expiry is only a logout and login sequence. Due to the fact the the services are still running file copy continues. But it's still rather remarkable since the services wait until wireless is active before continuation. I have to say this tops any Apple or Linux thing I've seen.

Is this the mythical soft boot thing we've been hearing about? Power was on but no BIOS display. It just logged back in and resumed the copy even though the hardware is pretty much dead.

Still going 2.42MB/s. I figured for this kind of aberrant behavior that I should choke it with a torrent. No change. Slower of course but be realistic. No HP/UX or Solaris box I've ever seen can do this!

What function did you use for the backup? There must have been an orderly shutdown and resume.

A simple homegroup file copy, odd isn't it?

Makes no sense unless Microsoft wanted people to be able to backup files, hmm. I don't get it.

I think that theres a future in "rebooting" after 2 hours...
Just idle research as you all know ;)

Can't be shadow copy. The line is still running.

OK it's definitive. The "reboot" after license violation or expiry is just a logoff. Who knew? Tell me?
