Incremental backups

Hello folks,

Couple of weeks ago, my laptop HDD started making clicking sound. I scrambled to make a backup. Although data is regularly backed up, I never back up the system. At the same time, I hate to get system up and running after system restore due to the time involved. Built-in windows backup won't run so I used Marium Reflect free edition to make a back up successfully.

Now hoping that its time to RIP to my HDD, I started cleaning up the data and now suddenly, seems like HDD is off life support and is just fine. I thought of making incremental backup of previous macrium reflect backup. But such thing is not available in free-edition.

I wonder if I use Windows built-in backup feature, does it allow such incremental backup?

Thanks in advance.

Hello fuzzychicken,

Each system image created using the built-in feature in Windows is a new full image backup of the system.

The Windows Backup for files/folders will do an incremental backup. If you include a system image with the Windows backup, the image part is still a new full backup each time.

Hope this helps, :)
Shawn

Yes believe it is only available in the paid version of macrium.

You can do incremental backups using Windows backup.

If this is the first time you are backing up using windows backup i would do a full backup first this will backup everything.

Then when doing a second backup use incremental backup as it will only back up the parts of the system and files and folders that have changed since the full backup and will be quicker after the initial full backup.
