A program I use frequently (VuePrint) refuses to let me change the .ini file to a particular opening directory. There is a line in the .ini "Directory=C:\"
I have attempted to change it to "Directory=C:\User1\User\Downloads" to no avail.
I have changed the file logged in as "Administrator" and as the only "User" of the system. Once or twice the change worked, but at next log on, the .ini file had changed back to the original setting.
I have searched the registry and no .ini file reference is there. Yes, I have saved the file using both "Save" and "Save as."
Any help would be appreciated.

Some programs only read an .ini file on startup, and write it on exit. If you change the file while the program is running, when the program closes it will write its settings out. This will overwrite your changes.

If that's not what it happening I would try to contact the publishers of the software to find out what the trick is. Perhaps it accepts a command line param to change the setting or some other method.

Thank you for the response. Tried your suggestions, but
all failed. Unfortunately, the program has been around for
ions, and last year, went to being "free" with no support.
No biggie, I'll just live with it.

Try including the trailing slash such as
"Directory=C:\User1\User\Downloads\"

I just have to laugh every time I change the INI file. It reverts right back to its former settings !!! I'm no longer concerned about it. If it want to open in the "documents" folder, so be it. Thanks for the help, though.

Thought that might work because on their page there's another .ini file setting for a folder path and it says "be sure to include the trailing slash." Some programmer's are lazy. It's pretty simple to test for a trailing backslash and add one if it ain't there. But what can you do?
