Near the end of my Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit install on a DVD I booted from, its crashed the PC. After I restart it says "Setup is initializing resources" or something, then it tells me an unexpected error or restart has occurred." I've reinstalled and tried many fixes but have yet to find a solution.

Yeah I did. Burned it with the program Alcohol 120% I think it was called.

First thing, I would try turning off your overclocking.

Can you try installing from a USB flash drive? Brink created a great Tutorial on how to create a USB install drive here.

the ISO from MS? did you burn it at a slow speed?

90% of failed installs are bad burns/ISO's

Oh I didn't even mess with the settings. Should I try a slow burn or just do a install from a USB drive? And should I wipe my HDD this time or just install?

If I were you I would download it again, and burn it at a slow speed (alcohol is fine). You are burning just the one ISO file right?, not the files and folders?

Just the iso. I asked someone locally for help and he started talking to me about the drivers for it. I should be able to get the OS running even without all the right drivers right? And do I still need to take off XP for it or can I have both of them running?

even without the right drivers. most drivers are not loaded till after the login screen. If you safe boot most drivers arent loaded.

You can have XP and win 7 on the same machine but they should be in different partitions on it.

this problem is either the ISO/DVD or some hardware problem like overclocking.

I dont remember what your system specs are could you list them or put them in your system specs (lower left corner of your posts)

I do have my specs listed. So I guess the plan is reset CPU speed, redownload ISO, reburn at better settings, boot the dvd, install and prey.

Thanks for the specs. I didn't see them. Nice rig. While you are installing Overclocking is a killer. If you just reset to default your current ISO might work.

I overclocked it AFTER my first attempt to install, so its probably not it. I'll be sure to reset it.

If it's not to late, I would recommend to install via USB key, easy to do and faster to prepare than burning a DVD. Just need a 4GB USB key.

my install went ok but my mates didn't. 1st the disk wouldn't boot (dvd), so we used the Gujin boot loader floppy method (Gujin boot/Linux/system loader), which enabled to boot dvd. Then part way thru install failed, tried again and failed different point, so used mem check and found 1st mem module was faulty. Pulled it out and install went perfectly.

Alright, on a clean HDD a new slow burnt DVD I tried again and got the EXACT same problem. It must be a hardware problem, or some of my PC isn't ready for 64 bit. I'll try the 32 bit install and see if it works. The only problem I can see here is my motherboard, as all other parts seem fit and ready for 64 bit Windows 7.

should have added that we still required gujin boot loader - so we actually had 2 problems: 1 faulty memory - fixed by removal. And 2 m/b bios or dvd firmware problem - bypassed by using gujin, booting from floppy with win7 dvd in drive. suspect motherboard bios as we tried several dvd units.
64bit requires AMD 64bit (AMD64) or Intel EM64T capable processor with motherboard that has a bios that supports EM64T (for intel). Without this you go nowhere. You need to check Intel specs or run free sysinfo tool "Everest home edition" which will give info for your cpu. Some early P4 cpu's don't have this feature (particularly, but not only socket 478) and some (even later chips) have it disabled - a pricing measure by Intel - go to their site and get a full list, and to your motherboard site for that info. everest and sisoftsandra didn't detail EM64T ability for my board.

I checked and you have full 64bit support for both cpu and motherboard - try removing your geoforce board until after install ?
