Install Err: Windows Cannot Configure to Hardware in Your Computer

Hello Community! I have a problem. Im just installing Windows 7 on the following system, and i am getting the above error. (All brand new items).

i5 2500k
8gb ddr1600 Corsair
Asus P8P67 B3 rev 3.1
LG DVD Burner on SATA 3g
Mouse/Keyboard on USB
Club3D gtx550ti
Ultron Card Reader
2x 2TB Caviar Green on Raid0 with 2 partitions set up in the intel boot software one just under 2tb and the other at 1.7TB, the HDDs are SATA 6G
HDDs in Bios set to RAID
Windows7 home premium x64

Anyone got a clue? installs fine, in the end when its doing the config it gives me the error. Is it any of the hardware or is it getting confused with the raid? oh, the MB has two 6G connectors, one set of Marvel and one of Intel. Im using the intel with Rapid Storage Technology and set the disks up in the Boot Utility from intel.

Win7 doesn't much like dated RAID. Try installing to one HD plugged in alone and set to AHCI in BIOS. Unplug all peripherals.

Next try removing all but 2gb RAM to try install.

Check for newer BIOS update on Asus website. If none, reset the CMOS: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS

Next wipe the HD: SSD - HDD Optimize for Windows Reinstallation

If install makes it to installing drivers and stalls, use this method to enter Device Manager and uninstall any Device(s) in error to let install complete, then update driver(s) from the Desktop: Device Manager - Access During Windows 7 Installation

Thanks Gregrocker. I used the first tip. Just didnt do a raid. That solved the problem. What do you mean with dated raid?

RAID is a dated concept now that there's built-in drive imaging in Win7 that can instead be saved to the other HD. RAID0 not redundant since if you lose one HD you lose everything.

I assume you were looking for speed with the Raid setup. Well, 2TB HDDs are not your best candidates for speed to start with. And then Raid0 is a very touchy concept in terms of data security - as Greg pointed out.

Maybe you want to look into a small SSD for the OS. That would buy you a LOT more speed than any Raid setup. If you then schedule regular images of your OS (you certainly have enough disk storage space for that), you would be all set for any eventuality.

I completely agree with Greg : installation of an OS to a RAID array seems to be problematical 99/100 times, and a real risky affair if its a RAID0 - lose one disk, and you lose it all.

If its a fast, snappy, responsive system disk you want, nothing will beat an SSD. Note : as a secondary data disk, a RAID0 works perfectly fine, as long as you recognise and accept the risk inherent in the RAID0 configuration. A good backup/imaging policy will save you here.
