Install failure on blank harddisk

Hi

I'm building a new pc for the first time and am stuck on installing Windows 7 with the 0x80070570 and 0xC000007b (rollback.exe) errors during the "Expanding Windows files" stage. I'm aware that it is similar to Tonsoffun49's thread, but have no previous OS installed and am using a retail version of Windows Home Premium. The motherboard is a GA-770TA-UD3 and the hard disk is a Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB Sata2.

Tried using only 1x2 gb RAM and switching it around. Have only USB mouses. Cannot get rid of the 100mb unallocated space (in fact there are 2 with the same name - one with 0mb)

It sounds like you need to clean the drive if it has extra unallocated space. Was this a new drive when you started?

You could download and burn a partition management program to partition the drive, or use diskpart to clean it and then partition.

If you want to not have the 100mb system partition, you need to partition ahead of time, or use diskpart just prior to setting the partitions.

If you need help on diskpart, post back.

All the parts are band new except for the cd/dvd drive.
The 100mb system partition first appeared after the first botched installation.

I'll give diskpart a try and grateful if you could explain how.

The 100MB partition is normal. Don't worry about it. If you want to remove it later on, see my tutorial here: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/71363-system-reserved-partition-delete.html

Now, try installing again. Do a clean install: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1649-clean-install-windows-7-a.html

Be sure to delete all partitions and then install. Don'[t worry about formatting.

To use diskpart, when you are at the partitions windows before you select where to install, hit Shift+F10. This will open a command prompt window (or you could choose Repair after booting the install DVD and go to command prompt).

Type these commands followed by enter after each and wait for a response:

Diskpart
list disk
select disk 0 <--use the number of the disk you are trying to clean
clean
create partition primary size=75000 <--this creates a 75G primary partition
exit
exit

If you want the 100mb system reserved partition, do not partition ahead of time but let the installer do it. By using the disk options button, you can remove all prior partitions and create a new one.

I tried using diskpart, but still get the errors. Will try later to reassemble the components.

You may want to try a hard drive test. Stick the drive in another machine and test it with one of these programs: Hard Drive Diagnostics Tools and Utilities (Storage) - TACKtech Corp.
