Solved "install guest additions" not available for VM

I installed 10 on with oracle Virtual Box, but cannot access full screen mode. Before on VM I would simply go to devices and clicked install guest additions, but now the option is not there. In the installation folder I found a "guest additions ISO file", so I mounted it in hopes that I could access it via the VM Insert Guest additions CD image d option, but not luck. Anyone else experiencing this?

The option is clearly shown in your screenshot, it's the last one that says "Insert Guest Additions CD Image".
That will put the additions ISO in the virtual CD drive and, if autorun is enabled in the guest, will automatically begin installation, as it always did.

I forgot to add that when I click on the insert cd image option, nothing happens. I'll assume form you're response that I need to change the autorun settings?

The VirtualBox Windows Guest Additions are designed to be installed in a virtual machine running a Windows operating system. The following versions of Windows guests are supported:

As per the oracle website, if I am trying to use 8.1 for my version, would that fall under 8 or is this the reason I cannot seem to access the additions?

Bah! I've given up. Never had this problem before with Oracle, perhaps I'll try an older build when I give it another shot, but I've install windows 10 three times on different machines without this problem, so I'm hoping it's the latest build becuase there really is no explanation for it

If autorun is disabled, even though that's not the default, it will not start the installation on its own.
It's just a matter to opening the CD drive in Explorer (in the guest) and run the install from there.
Windows 8.1 is almost certainly supported, as it's the very same thing as 8, and it's reasonable to even work in Win10.

Yeah, I tried all that, but still nothing. I don't know whats up, since I've never had to go through this in all all times I've used the VM, the option to install guest additions was already in the drop down menu, so it's weird that all of a sudden it isn't there

Hi there

Not the answer the user wanted but I'll post it anyway.

People seem to have trouble in getting VBOX to run W10 as a VM properly whatever HOST system they are using.

IMO I'd switch to VMware player --far more stable and efficient --at least in my experience. Vmplayer is FREE for home users - although you might get confused on their website as they seem to hide it !!!!. I'd go for the earlier release (vmplayer 6) as vmplayer 7 will only run on HOST 64 bit machines and they seemed to have taken out a little functionality compared with release 6 (not significant loss of functionality though).

If you already have created a VM with VBOX VMWARE converter (free) can convert to VMware format. Uninstall guest additions on the VM first though. After installing the VMware product and bringing up the guest simply install VMware tools - this definitely works.
