Recovery backup discs are corrupt, Lenovo only allowed one backup.
Lenovo currently has OEM Win-7 PRO 64-bit installed.

I have located a genuine RETAIL Win-7 PRO 64-bit package from a reputable supplier.
It is not a pirate nor illegal copy.

Can I install the Retail version (Win-7 PRO 64-bit) onto the Lenovo Laptop and activate it with MS ?

Thank you :-)

If you have a genuine retail license for Windows 7 Pro, then there should be no problem installing it, IF your computer is 64-bit. If your computer is 32-bit, you should install the 32-bit version of Windows 7 Pro. I don't know if you can use your license key for 32-bit Windows.

I use Samba to share my data drive with the other computers at my house and with my guest session in VMWare Workstation Player.
I have purchased a sealed package/box from a very reputable software distributer.
My concern is that Lenovo have a "gate keeper" on the laptop that will only recognise Lenovo dedicated OS software.

The Lenovo has been a problem since new, it came with Win-7 PRO (64-bit) installed, but the discs that came with the machine were for an upgrade to Win-8. (I don't want Win-8)
Assuming the recovery partition contained Win-7 PRO too, I created recovery media onto DVDs. All went well until I decided to create a second backup onto USB. Lenovo blocked that attempt with an alert "you are only entitled to ONE copy"

It almost did my head in, my first attempt to step out side my comfort zone.
With my idiot hat on I just pressed on using the new laptop :geek:

We have moved house since then and those recovery discs cannot be found

OEM computers like the Lenovo has a Recovery partition to:
- Launch a Factory restore from BIOS.
- Launch a Factory restore from Windows.
- Create a Recovery disk(s)

If the recovery partition is still on the disk you can do the factory restore (From BIOS or from Windows).
You can even make a new set of disks. You just need to reset a flag on the recovery partition. (search the net)

If the recovery partition has a Win 8, you don't need to buy a Win 7 license. Your computer should have a COA sticker with a Key.
You can use any Win 7 disk to install and use the COA sticker with a Key to activate.

You can get lenovo recovery media, not sure why you bought a fresh retail copy?

What is the exact model of the Lenovo?

If it came with win7 pro, then it should have the lenovo slic table.
