Any idea why Windows Update tries to create a restore point when installing some but not all updates regardless of the fact that system restore is kept disabled?
It will try to create a restore point for up to 10 minutes before installing the update (without creating a restore point) and I've seen this a few times before. Other updates install without an attempt to create a restore point.

Hmm I don't know mate I am having all sorts of problems with updates even on the clean install. It seems to me that their servers must have some sort of hitch because like you I am getting pretty fed up with it.
