Hello,

Will it be possible to "upgrade" directly from Enterprise 90 days trying version to a standard pro version ? I assume if Seven is from Vista installable it should be also from Seven (?)

If you mean upgrade-in-place, not normally. (It may be possible to hack the installer to do it. It won't help that the Enterprise edition is essentially the same as Ultimate, so it'd be a downgrade as well.)

If you ask whether the Enterprise eval version would qualify for the use of an upgrade license for a custom (clean) install, I'd say almost certainly. The betas (I has 7229 X86 and 7232 X64) did.

If you are test driving Windows 7 Enterprise you will have to do a clean install. The purpose behind 7 Enterprise was to give IT departments a chance to see if Win 7 was a possible upgrade to Vista and XP IT systems.

Thanks Ken. Version are different allright but what could be bad for the install ? It should normally be without problem from the compatibility point of view... In any case much better than from the beta versions I think (?)

It is a downgrade certainly. So you confirm it would be normally possible with the same trick as other use from the RC (with virtual disk etc)

It seems to me that the purpose was also to verify compatibilty with the hardware of the company...even a small company.

The problem is that the trial is timebombed to stop @ 90 days. If you upgrade instead of clean install the new version will then be timebombed.

the timebomb is part of the ei.cfg file used, its tied to the serial the trial uses on installation.

It doesn't really make sense. Even in XP64 and Server 2003 days the trial versions were timebombed by more than the product key. In other words, the product key was not the only factor in determining the trial duration.

If what you are saying is true then right now everyone can download the FULL VERSION of Windows directly from Microsoft themselves. Has Microsoft taken two steps backwards in their quest to prevent piracy?

Hum I don't see any piracy in what I would like to do... I paid for the upgrade anyway. The only question is "is the hardest and painfull way necessary or is there a soft and elegant other way to make it."
