I was thinking of doing this but wondering what wont work and if you can find drivers etc...

built in webcam?
mem card reader?
anything else?

there is a strange issue on the keyboard with this laptop. Everything ok until you press numlock, then some of the letter keys are mapped to numbers! will a win7 install fix that?

Some of the keyboards which don't have separate numpad on the right, the numpad is actually "integrated" with some alphabetical keys (mostly those on the right side of the keyboard like O, P, K, L, N, M.)

When you press numlock, these pre-assigned alphabetical keys start working as the numpad, so you see numbers being inputted. Fresh install of Windows will not fix this. It's the way keyboard is designed.

And yes you can find driver for those devices on HP website. You need to know the model number of the machine.

Thanks.

OK, one possible solution seems to be disabling the numlock key totally, if you like.

Click start :orb: > Type 'regedit' and hit Enter > Navigate to

Code:
HKEY_USERS\.Default\Control Panel\Keyboard

Double click "InitialKeyboardIndicators" and enter '1' as the value. This will disable numlock key totally.

Also try downloading keyboard drivers for that particular machine, that might solve the problem too.

You could try running the Windows 7 Upgrade adviser > Download Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor from Official Microsoft Download Center
That should point out anything that may not work or needs an updated driver. If there are any show stoppers that should find them. Also if you install and leave the product code field blank, you should be able to run it for 30 days with out activating. That way you can see if it is going to be OK. If your happy with things then just enter your product code and activate. If your not happy, you'll be able to use that product code on another PC and not have to worry about it having been activated on another PC. OEM versions are non transferable once activated.
