install windows 7 from xp pro

i could anyone give me advice please
want to put windows 7 on my pc it has xp pro at the moment as i understand not going to be supported any more.
i have windows 7 disc which has windows 64bit have i got the wrong disc do i need windows 7 32bit

You need a 64 bit capable cpu to run Windows 7 64 Bit.

i dont think i can run 64 it fails to load is there anything i can do to run 64 or will i need to run 32bit
when i do windows 7 upgrade advisor.
cpu speed 3.2ghz
2.8gb ram
plenty of free space
any ideas please if it will run

Do you mean you have already tried to install the 64-bit version and it failed?

Where did you get Win7? How it it being activated?

With 3gb RAM I would use 32 bit for best performance.

If you have a valid Product Key we can provide the download for you to burn to CD or flash stick.

To better help us to help you would you please add your systems specs? Here's the correct way to do it. :SystemInfo See Your System Specs Under System Manufacturer/Model Number add whether it is a desktop or laptop and whether self built. Very important

My first ever series of posts on here were due to me not being able to install Windows 7 64-bit, the Upgrade Advisor said I was good to go when in fact my system at the time could only run 32-bit. I had to sell my 64-bit upgrade and buy a 32-bit upgrade and all was fine.

Here's the original thread I started about it, my very first posts on here. I had to work through a multitude of problems which were all sorted but the Windows installation never completed. It was only a year or so after that thread died out that I eventually realised what the problem was. I'd stagnated in my understanding of PCs and had got left behind somewhat, but I brought myself up to speed and found out that there was no way I could install a 64-bit OS on that machine. Bought the 32-bit and all went swimmingly.

I had used the Upgrade Advisor numerous times before purchasing the 64-bit though as back then money was tight and I couldn't afford to make a mistake, which I ultimately did. That's the God's honest truth as well people, I'd have no reason to fabricate that.

I had a 32-bit system, like I say I really had stagnated at that point and had no idea what system I had beyond the being able to name my hardware. But the Upgrade Advisor said I was good to install a 64-bit version of Windows 7 so that's what I bought.

And by that you mean you only had a 32 bit capable cpu, correct ?

As far as I know, that`s the only determining factor.

But don`t quote me on that

Well the processor was an AMD 64 5000+ Dual Core so I presumed that meant 64-bit, but the 64-bit installer just wouldn't get past the finalising stage whereas the 32-bit installed without a hitch.

Well I think we've scared the OP off...

Boozad with that system you could have run w7 64 bit but you seemed to have had a load of bad hardware, maybe even a bad board. It was older too so maybe w7 wasn't compatible although the advisor just reading the hardware said it was.

There were a lot of good ringing XP rigs that won't run w7, or if they would, not very well.

Yeah, if the CPU is 64 bit capable, then it will run a 64 bit OS.

I don`t see why it wouldn`t install on the hardware you listed. Odd :huh:

Maybe it didn`t like that silver neon bubble case , just kidding.

I got Windows 7 32-bit running on it fine, had it on there for about two years, it just wouldn't take the 64-bit for some reason. Never completely understood why.
