Hi Everyone,

Im new here and I didn't know if this should be under Install & Setup or Backup & Restore, so apologies if its in the wrong place.

So, after hours of searching and not finding anything I thought I would create an account here and ask my specific question.

On my current workstation I am about to upgrade my existing WD Blue 2.5 500GB HDD to a Samsung Evo 850 1TB drive. I have been wanting to clean install windows 7 for a while after finding a few issues since I cloned from my original HDD to the current HDD, missing DLLs and such, no problem it still boots & runs fine, I just get a few errors every now and again, which are easy enough to sort out.

I have a second SSD installed with 2 specific programs on it only. They are Onyx Graphics Thrive v12 and Serendipity Blackmagic v7. They are both RIP Managers for wide-format printing.

My question is will there be anything outside of this drive, i.e. in the Application Data folder or registry or anywhere else, that I will need to back up and restore on the clean install?

I have read this page for Serendipity (link) and any pages it referenced and made the required backups and bookmarked pages just incase. I couldn't find one for Thrive.

I guess I am more worried about registry entries than anything else? Will all required reg files be on that drive and not on my OS drive?

I have performed a full Reg backup using Command Prompt from my Win7 install disk and JustManager.
Is it safe, knowing that this is on exactly the same computer with the only hardware change being the removal of the WD HDD and install of the Samsung Evo, to restore the reg backup in full (ignoring the issues stated above that I have been getting for awhile)?

Any other help you guys can give will be greatly appreciated and my apologies for this being so long I just wanted to explain everything.

Thanks :)

If I understand correctly, the 2nd SSD with those two specific programs you mentioned were installed "under the auspices of the 1st SSD's Windows". I think what I did once was to use Replendence's Registrar Registry Manager (you can anything similar in power and functions) to locate all the related registry entries, exported just those set of registry items, then imported that set into the registry of another computer. In short, in my case, program X existed on two computers, however program X was much better behaving on computerA than computerB. I simply imported into computerB what I had exported from computerA -- of course, after doing a full image OS partition backup, along with tweaking.com's Registry Backup's registry backups on computerB first! I'm not sure if any of the above applies to your situation at all. I'm partially distracted by having to move this week.

Welcome to the forum.
If I understood well:
- You cloned a old HDD to the WD Blue 2.5 and it's giving you some errors like missing DLL.
- You have installed on a SSD two specific programs on it.
- Now you want to do a clean install on a new 1T SSD and still run the programs installed on the SSD with 2 specific programs on it.

To be short: They probably won't work.
When you install a program it may install the files on a location but it will spread configuration files in many places.
- Register
- C:\ProgramData
- C:\Users\name\AppData

My suggestion:
- Detach all other disks leaving on only the 1T SSD.
- Boot from the modified Win 7 Installation disk (with the added USB 3 drivers). Go to install - Advanced - Delete all partitions - Create new and proceed.
- Once the installation is finished, install the drivers and the updates. MS releases SP2 for Windows 7 - Windows 7 Help Forums
- Attach the 256 G SSD and re install the 2 specific programs.
- Attach the WD Blue and copy your data files to the 1T SSD.
- Format the WD Blue and use it to store backups
