Install without 100MB partition new drive

I would assume the instructions at the top of this thread would work. I used those instructions, although I had Vista, not XP.

Any particular reason you would start the install from within XP rather than booting from the Win 7 install CD? I don't know that it makes any difference, but I chose to boot from the disc and then dropped into the diskpart command.

I like the idea of having all my old installation saved in Windows.old.
So wanted to run setup from the desktop.

So nobody here really knows, if diskpart (in Windows7 pre-SP1) will actually auto-align your drive correctly. When you use it to clean/create a partition or not?

Its just so confusing. And wonder if the 1024kB alignment stated everywhere will work for all SSDs. Some SSDs will report 512/512 as logical/physcial for example.

No one has ever said it hasn`t, all you have to do is check after your install.

Personally I use Partition Wizards boot CD to setup drives/partitions etc.

If you install on a blank/ unallocated space ssd the installer will install on it as if it is already aligned since it has a single partition spanning the entire disk/ ssd..

If one makes a partition to install windows on just make it a even gb # 100gbs..... and it will also be auto aligned
