Solved Install x64 on a x86 desktop?

Hi there guys, I was just wondering, how would it be possible to install 64 bit W7 Home Premium over my 32 bit desktop? I'm wondering because I tried to do so but it wouldn't run straight from the desktop because it's 64 bit. Would I need to use a DVD? And why is it possible to run the 64 bit installer from the boot anyway? I'm confused. Please help! (I'll give the most helpful person imaginary points

You cannot upgrade from a 32-bit version of Windows to a 64-bit version of the operating system, it would have to be a clean install as this tutorial shows.

@seavixen32 I know I'd need to clean install, that's what I want to do. But, I see it is not possible to clean install FROM the desktop. Would I need to burn a DVD? And then boot from it?

except install 64 bit. Any Idea how?

You must boot from a DVD or USB flash drive.

I have a usb, but it has all my family's stuff on it And the only empty usb is 1 gb. I'll see if I can find DVD's.

One should always boot the installer to install Windows for multiple reasons.

You also need the DVD for repairs in case Win7 won't boot.

This is a multi-hundred-dollar investment, not something to skimp or take shortcuts on.

Done it! I had a whole rack of DVD's that I could install the actual ISO image from. I'll probably enjoy 64 bit a lot more anyway Thank you guys for reminding me to use a DVD!
