Alright, so I am thinking about installing Windows 7 now, but just wanted to know is it a fresh install for is it an upgrade? ( I believe it is a fresh install, which is what im kinda hoping for) Has anyone had any problems? I haven't had any problems with Vista. So im guessing ill be alright with 7.

can you post up your specs???

the only thing that be a problem is if you have hardware from the Windows 2000....lol
most XP computers can actually handle 7 as long as you have more than 512 of memory..

a fresh install is the ideal way although if you have programs you can just live without (and dont have the installation) you can try the upgrade option

Honestly? You have to evaluate what you are going to be doing with the machine. Many here have moved over to W7 completely, others have kept a backup OS around for 'just in case' reasons - still others have multiple versions of W7 for the same reason.

Bottom line- can you afford to lost your data and / or deal with a buggered install and have to install from scratch and then install all your apps? If so, try the upgrade. If not, Shrink something and then install W7 onto that partition.

you should only try this on a test machine which you have a backup on...

Ahhh i see the upgrade so it looks like I should be good. Unless something goes wrong during install....I'll post up my results tomorrow when i do this. Has anyone found any programs that simply don't work?

Well I installed win 7 on my 2nd hard drive and I'm using it as my main OS. it was a clean install and so far working perfect. Games, Coding, Music all work fine. I still have xp64 on my other hard drive, not going to delete that incase something bad does happen. Plus that one has everything installed on it and works fine and I don't need to use it's space so I might as well keep it for now.

I installed the pre-beta build that was leaked just after PDC, but soon went right back to Vista (ack!!), but now that the 7000 build is out, I've just installed that and wow.. this really feels more like an RC build (heck, almost RTM) than a beta build. Something that I haven't been able to say to Microsoft lately: "job well done".

Granted, it's really not massively different than Vista, but still. It is far more stable, far more polished, and far far better than Vista/Longhorn was at this stage. Definitely going to keep this as the primary OS.
