Installation a Second Time

Using an upgrade disk, is it possible to install a second time, if the first attempt was less than satisfactory. I am referring to using the upgrade disk that will be shipped in Oct. First attempt will be a clean install with Vista nuked.

Yes. Use it a thousand times. But on only one machine at a time.

if the first attempt fails I dont think that you could update it second time...
And you can only update to Windows 7 only from vista Sp2.

Yes, you can reinstall it on the same computer as many times as like as long as you delete all previous installations of it first, or do a inplace upgrade to reinstall it.

I'm pretty sure that it will be the same method used below if you wanted to do a clean install with a upgrade Windows 7 instead. If not, then it will just ask you to insert you Vista installation disc to verify before continuing with the installation.

I probably should have provided more information in my initial post. My puter has Vista installed, by Dell, the only disc that I have is the one provided by Dell (it is not a Microsoft product, but a Dell product, which will install Vista as the day that I received it). If I try a clean install, (all partitions deleted or reformatted), would I be able to try again with an upgrade disc)?

The "update" disk will do a full install. The OP will be prompted for the license key of his prior OS as well as the key for 7. Upgrade refers to the terms of the license, not the content of the disk.
