Installation and Wiping the Hard Drive

I've been solving about two dozen install problems today and am dead tired and in need of sleep as the sun is coming up. I'm not even sure how the double post ended up above since I was copying/pasting between 3 windows in two threads - my apologies for repeating repeating myself.

Frankly, I have hoped all along the Upgrades would boot because I am a clean install freak, but everything I've read says they won't. But I still hope I'm wrong!

Probably this sentence:
Clean Installation: This method requires the user to format their hard drive when prompted by the Windows 7 Installation. This will remove all files, settings and programs from your computer.

There's no way one can "remove all files, settings and programs from your computer" from within a running OS. Subtle, but it says computer.... not OS, not partition, it says computer.

Did the Microsoft Store Customer Care Team Member misspeak? If he did, that's another issue entirely (and one I will pursue relentlessly with Microsoft if I ever have a problem assisting a client booting a clean upgrade install over an activated, qualifying OS).

I hear ya' about the sun coming up. And I don't mean to belabor this issue. Get some rest. This will all eventually be sorted out (and soon).
Tom

Wow. You are a much closer reader than I am, zrtom. It does indeed imply that it would have to be booted in that case.

This was just put up: http://www.sevenforums.com/installa...-clean-install-upgrade-windows-7-version.html

Even here, the Custom install partition choices map is not shown. So I inquire in the comments and was directed to this tutorial that gives clean install advanced partitioning options (which can't work from OS anyway). It says it works with Update disk, but requires it to boot!

Okay, how do I "Boot the computer from [my] Windows 7 installation DVD."?

Okay, how do I "Boot the computer from [my] Windows 7 installation DVD."?

Hello Morgan,

You would just place the DVD in the drive, restart the computer, and when you get the "Press any key to boot from CD" message (only 8 seconds to respond), press a key to start booting from the installation disc.

This tutorial will help show you how to do a clean (format) install if that is what you were wanting to do.

Hope this helps,
