Hi all,
time for a "cleanout" of the comp so trying to do a clean format/reinstall but having a problem.
I set the BIOS to boot from the CD, insert the Win7 disc, restart, push enter when it says to "To boot from CD push any key". I then get "windows is loading files" with the white bar at the bottom of the screen followed by "windows is starting" but then the screen goes to the blue Win 7 background and zilch happens.
I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling the optical drive and it recognises all the discs I've tried, I can open/play them and if I insert the Win 7 disc after startup I can open it OK. Am I doing something wrong?

Legitimate sealed OEM disc bought when I built the comp and it was used for first install and I think I may have done a format/reinstall since then.

Do you have a readable key code on your COA ?

I just borrowed a 64bit OEM disc from a mate but same same. Put in the disc, restart, tap delete, get to BIOS and make CD #1, then get "loading files", blue Windows page and nothing happens, have to eject disc and use the reset button to reboot. Something amiss in the mystery box I fear.

Could be the hard drive then.

You have let it set at that screen for awhile haven`t you ? It could take a bit before it moves on.

And it doesn`t sound like you`re doing anything wrong.

But you could try setting the bios to default, reset the boot order how you want it, then try again.

Latest steps for Overcoming Windows 7 Installation Failures - Windows 7 Help Forums

If everything fails then you can remove the HD and slave to another PC to delete all partitions in Disk Mgmt, or on problem machine start the self-booting Partition Wizard CD to Partition Wizard Wipe Disk - Video Help. . This in turn should force the installer to autostart to do a Clean Install Windows 7.

However if the installation media is no good then this will not work, which is why we suggest to replace it. In your case trying that of a friend, I would confirm it will boot and queue up install in another PC.

I had an Acronis backup on a spare external HDD which I really didn't want to use as it wasn't completely "vanilla". I used that but still would like to know what the problem could be.
I did replace the DVD burner a while back. Is it possible to plug it in incorrectly?
Fault in the mobo?
Fault in the HDD?
Everything is working OK otherwise so buggered if I know
