Situation: Acer Aspire One (AOD250) that came with xp, has successfully installed W7 previously but now when I tried a second time with a clean install I am encountering error 0x80300001. I have already searched and tried solutions from other threads to no avail.

When I booted from the USB thumb drive it went to the screen where it asks you "Where do you want to install Windows?" there were originally 2 locations but I formatted and deleted both of them so it said
Disk 0 Unallocated Space-149.0 GB-149.0 GB-(blank)
I then selected this disk and clicked "new", creating a 152626 MB partition. now it says
Disk 0 Partition 1-149.0 GB-149.0 GB-Primary
at this point it says "Windows cannot be installed to Disk 0 Partition 1. (Show details)"
this opens a dialog box that reveals "Windows is unable to install to the selected location. Error: 0x80300001"

I downloaded the storage drivers from Acer's download & support page and tried loading the suggested one as well as several others. I don't know if the drivers worked as there was no confirmation that they had installed.

From what i have read on other posts, I am falling off at the driver installation step. I believe this may my problem...

All help is greatly appreciated.

P.S.

  • because I formatted the drive there is no operating system installed. Running anything besides cmd is not possible.
  • I am using the Windows 7 RC 7100 which has installed on another computer without trouble.
  • If I posted this in the wrong area or something like that, please let me know how to fix it, Im new to this forum stuff

I tried that but I couldn't figure out how to find my driver on their site Silicon Image - Support. where should i go to find the drivers?
I forgot to mention that the drivers I do have are on a usb flash drive, like the Windows 7 installation files.

theog, that contained the same driver as the other two sources. didnt work...
here is what i am doing, after downloading the drivers, i move the folder to the thumb drive and when i click load driver the installation on the acer I plug the thumb drive in and browse to the folder that contains the drivers and click ok. it searches for a second then comes up with the same driver (Intel(R) ICH7M/MDH SATA AHCI Controller) and when i click next it appears to install but after it returns to the "where do you want to install windows?" message, and the error.
am i missing a step?

also, in the bios the choice for the SATA Mode is IDE and AHCI which one should i choose?

Choose IDE.

Use AHCI. I ran into the same problem trying to install Windows 7 onto my SSD over AHCI. It would only work on the RAID setting, and the IDE setting is unacceptable for an SSD. I found HPET was disabled in my BIOS, enabled it, and it worked! It's worth a try!

I had the same problem with a Gigabyte H67M-D2-B3 rev. 1.1 installing W7 HP 64-bit.

The W7 installation program accepted all partitions before I loaded the driver from a USB flash drive.

The driver loaded fine, but after that the W7 installation program refused to install on any on the partitions. Neither removing and recreating partitions nor refreshing helped. When I changed HPET mode from 32-bit to 64-bit in the BIOS, and began installation from scratch again, W7 accepted all partitions again even with the AHCI driver loaded.
