hi, i m on a amd dual core 5200, abit k9n with latest bios, ati 4830, 2gb ram 800mhz (2x1)

i have downloaded from my university win7 x64 version (the free copy for students build 7600) but i have also tryed 2 other versions (rc i think, both 64 and 32) with no success.

first of all, the starting installation page is very slow, after 4-5 minuts on "setup is starting" (advance mode, not upgrade), and at the second step (expanding windows files 0%) installation crashes with blue screen:

first time i get: bad pool header error

second time i m on another blue screen: "a device driver attemptingto corrupt the system has been caught. the faulty driver currently on the kernel stack must be replaced.."

now i will try the 3rd time to install in "safe mode" and i post new info here.
if u need something more to know for helping me ill provide them as fast as possible.

Hi and welcome to sevenforums.

Because you seem to be having problems with 3 different versions I think we ought to look at how you download the image, how you burn it, etc

So

you are downloading from your school. do you use a download manager? when its finished downloading do you check the hash values to make sure its identical to the original?
When you burn it to dvd (I assume you are burning it to dvd) what app do you use? At what speed do you burn it? do you burn the one ISO image, or do you extract the files and folders and burn that?

If you plan on staying at 2 gigs of ram you are better off with the 32bit version.

Waiting for info

Ken

i downloaded and burned all 3 from home. for the beta/rc i used the windows downloader (in java?) and checked m5sum manually and it was correct on both.
i burned using imgburn (i have burned other imges for others So with it), ofc i burned it as an image. and all of them boots ok on computer start.

for the "student" copy i used a win downloader with an integrated CRC check, and burned on verbatim at 16x (2 of them, the second one i tryed to burn slowly but nothing changed)

the dvd boots fast, doens hangs on reading the dvd.

ps: thx for the welcome :))

ps: in safe mode now i m at "expanding windows files 10%".. lets see if and when crash this time. (i also plug off net cable)

When you say you are in safe mode, you are giving me some concern. First, put the DVD into the drive, and reboot the machine and let it boot from the DVD. Do the install from there. I'm thinking that you have your old OS (ubuntu, xp??) and trying to install from there. First, I never recommend installing the OS with the other OS running. Too many gremlins hiding out in strange places. Just install from boot.

Secondly, I hope you are doing a clean install and not an upgrade over XP, as I do not believe an upgrade will work from XP to W7.

Good luck and let me know if any of this helps.

i dont know if this is related:

ATA error count: 1899
last 5 error are "uncorrectable error in data"

commands leading to the command that caused the error were:
READ DMA
READ NATIVE MAX ADDRESS EXT
IDENTIFY DEVICE
SET FEATURES
READ NATIVE MAX ADDRESS EXT

but all self test completed without error
and So on this disks runs flawless

Ok so first off, Welcome to SF!

Secondly, I suggest you go with 32bit, I see you have 2GB of RAM. IF you do not plan on upgrading to 4GB or more, stay with 32bit. Better software support, and its cheaper to buy.

Thirdly, Do not burn your images faster than 4x. Windows 7 is VERY picky.

Fourthly, Why in Gods name are you going into Safe Mode to install Windows 7? You shouldn't have to do this period.

Nice to have a first poster with active brain cells. sorry about dumbing down.

Good idea on the network, just cant update. If it still fails I have seen comps where some ram had to be pulled. (leave abt 2 gigs in)\

Let us know how it goes

i picked up 64bit because i have 1 copy free and i choosed that because i probably buy a new pc new year :)

about burning speed, i have read thousand of different opinions, on some cdburner forums they also say that low speed is not good on new burners/media.. anyway i tryed also 1 copy at low speed

fourtly, i just tryed safe mode because any other try fails... in safe mode .. it worked!!! the problem is when windows rebooted to complete the installations, (and reboot in normal mode) it hangs on "completing installation" :(

i think one of the point is "why in safe mode installation doesnt hang?"

ps: thx to all for ur time and help, i really need it now :(
dont want to reinstall xp at this point

Ok, so if you think about it, whats the purpose of SafeMode?

From what I know, and it isn't very much, SafeMode is the minimum required applications to boot the OS. Somewhere, something isn't being loaded that needs to be loaded in the Normal, or its being loaded and Windows is being a cranky old (wo)man, and complaining.

The DVD/CD deal is weird, because I've worked for companies such as Microsoft & General Dynamics (They have TONS of Military Contracts). And the people I know from work, still say to burn at low speeds. I have a brand spankin' new DVD Burner, my computer hiccuped with 64bit burned at 22,000kbps.

Also, how come you're using the RC1s? The RTM version is available. I had all sorts of issues with the RC1 at school running custom Dell computers, and even at home I had problems. Try and get a hold of an RTM. If you're college subscribes to MSDNAA (Microsoft Something Developers Network Academic Alliance) I think the S is Software, but I'm not entirely sure.

Welcome to sevenforums. I know you have removed all your hardware but it would help if we knew what hardware is left. Please go to your user cp and fill in your system specs. Especially your CPU, MB, memory and graphics card. Then atleast we'll know what your trying to install it in. Thanks. Fabe

ultrakorn.. try this... make a small partition.. around 5gb.. copy all of the files to this partition and run the setup.exe ... this will eliminate the need for the dvd all together and avoid any problems of a bad disc/burn... let us know how it comes out..

i m on ubuntu now :/
how i do a clean install? if i do a new patition then how i run "setup.exe"
i dont think wine would do that !

i dont belive its a dvd related issue because last try, it fails with BSOD on the first reboot (completing installation) where dvd is not needed

If the ISO was not burned correctly you will have errors, some things will not work, the files copied to your computer may be corrupt. This is the number one cause of installation failures.
Try Tews suggestion, it's your best chance to get it working.

Have a look at these tutorials:

How to Do a Clean Installation with Windows 7

How To Install Windows 7 Without DVD, USB Device, Network or Any Other External Device

It will be explained in the above tutorial, you expand the ISO into the new partition, then double click the "setup.exe" file.

Let us know,

EDIT:
Missed the Ubuntu, change of direction.....

okay ... we need to start from scratch here... re-download the ISO image and re-burn it... since you no longer have a MS operating system installed we need to do that... Lets see if this takes care of your BSOD issue... if not we have a resident guru/expert who will be able to help..

PS.. I see you oh acidic one!! :roflmao:
