Installation failed

I also have tried to install a technet version of Windows 7. This failed.

My rig is as follows:
Pentium D945PSN with Pentium D 2.8GHz
Gigabyte Nvidia 9800 GTX+
4GB RAM
Dual monitor setup

I have attempted to upgrade from Vista 64 bit, and upon failure, I have tried clean installs thereafter.

The upgrade and every fresh install gets to the "Completing installation..." phase, goes about 30 seconds to a minute, the screen then flashes to black, and the setup crashes. Upon a restart, the setup reads an error message stating that setup encountered an error and must be restarted.

I had a copy of windows 7 beta (v7.0), and proceeded to install that. It worked perfectly. Installed in a half hour.

Versions of Windows 7 RTM attempted and downloaded multiple times, burned with different burners as well:

Windows 7 Ultimate x64 (two different copies)
Windows 7 Ultimate x86 (two different copies)
Windows 7 Professional x64
Windows 7 Home Edition x64
Windows 7 Home Edition x86

I have tried updates, clean installs, and those clean installs varied in adding a full 1TB partition vs two 500MB partitions.

The rig was fully working with Vista x64, with no errors, and is currently running with the beta.

Any advice?

The video card needed a BIOS update.

Do a complete format of your drive.. then disconnect everything that is not necessary to install Windows.. Disconnect the 2nd monitor.. now install ... report your results..

Also remove 1/2 the ram (2 gig remaining). How did you burn the dvd? did you burn the iso, or drag and drop files and folders then burn.

thanks

Removed half the ram (2 gigs remaining), and removed 2nd monitor. No luck, same error. Same goes for a complete format of the drive.

Burned the disks on 2 different machines. One was a powerbook, the other is the computer in question. Said tower also has 2 DVD burners (identical; sata). I even tried removing one of them for the install.

Image was burned with Toast on Mac. Image was burned using Nero (burned the image, not dragging files) when vista was on the machine. With windows 7 beta, double clicking the image opens a burning window. I burned the image that way for a number of the disks.

Also, nothing else is connected to the computer (externally). Only things connected are: one monitor, power, keyboard, mouse, sound.

That occurred to me as well, but I have no solution for removing my GFX card without a replacement to put in its place.

I would hate to purchase a new card and find out it wasn't the problem. I have also opened a case with microsoft to find out if that card has an incompatibility, but even so, a generic driver should work the card, so there is no reason that windows wouldn't simply use one. XP and vista were perfectly capable of dropping back to a generic driver if it needed to...

I'll have to grab a card out of a friend's rig I suppose.

AHA!

I will place an edit at the top post, but I solved the issue.

My video card needed a BIOS update, After doing so, the win7 installation worked perfectly.

Currently running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on the machine with no issues whatsoever. :)
