Installation issue, problem with network controller

I hope someone can help me as I am absolutely baffled as to what to do next. I was following solution 2 in this tutorial and I have got as far as step 5 (had to create a slipstream disk but that seemed to work). Windows XP installs and then restarts but after posting it gets stuck at "Verifying DMI Pool Data.......E.....". The letter "E" is highlighted in red and there is a red smiley face next to the "10EC" in the network cntrlr Vendor column in the PCI Devices Listing. That being said, I recently installed the usual windows 7 updates on my other system and my wireless card suddenly stopped working. Digging around I discovered that it was now unsupported, wonderful! I wonder if this has anything to do with the issue. Regardless, I cannot get past this screen into Windows 7 or XP now! Recovery console was absolutely no help and my copy of Windows 7 was a download (student edition via digital river) so I can't just pop the disk in like I can with my XP disk. Any suggestions anyone please, very very stuck.

For many reasons including this one, you should burn a WIn7 DVD from the download asap.

If you have the ISO, burn it using ImgBurn at 4x with Verify - it never fails.

Take the wireless card issue to the appropriate forum for resolution, which may be as simple as installing the driver in Vista/XP compatibility mode.

Just used this to repair my Windows 7 installation and gave up on the whole dual boot scenario. The whole point was because my copy of Protools 7.4 won't run on windows 7 (thanks digidesign, can always count on you to keep up!) so I guess I'll just upgrade to Protools 8. More money for the man.

Again thanks, I will definitely make copies of all my OSs going forward.
