Installation of Win7 Service Pack 1

Windows Update and DVD attempts to install SP1 have failed seven times. An error message on "Installation was not successful" states "Element not found" then "Error not found Ox800700490"
This gives me a link to the Troubleshooting problems installing SP1 for Win7. The three suggested "cures"
do not solve the problem and I have followed the instructions to the letter. My OS is Win7 Ultimate, CPU is an Intel pentium 4 CPU 3.00GHz with 4.0GB of RAM. My Security is Microsofts Security Essentials. All updates are covered by Windows Update and this is the only update that has failed so how do I get over this problem

DVD install SP1.... you mean the full install of SP1?

I downloaded the iso from Microsoft, copied it to a DVD the used the DVD to try to install the update.

You could re install windows with service pack 1 included.

If this was a new install then as Brian indicates you should have used the latest official installer provided in Clean Install Windows 7.

If this was extant then why is SP1 only being installed now? It may be fouling out because you waited way too long. Have you done all of the steps in Troubleshoot problems installing Service Pack 1 (SP1) for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 ?
