Installation Prevented By Policy

Hopefully someone can help.

Win7 Pro 32 bit with 4 gig of RAM - Dell 630i

Recently I must have changed something because when trying to install a new keyboard I get that error ' Installation Prevented by Policy '

Anyone give some hints ? Otherwise I might have to see if I can fix the problem by repairing my Win7 with the original CD/DVD.

Could you please be a little more specific about what you changed as well as what keyboard you where installing.

If I really knew

If I really knew what I changed, I would reverse it. The keyboard I'm trying to put on is a media keyboard and I have the cd for it but it won't load. Keeps giving me that 'group policy error'

Have you tried to run the setup file as a admin?

Run as Admin

I am the only user on this computer. Admin is standard.

Just becous you are the admin on the computer does not mean you are running the program as an Admin. Open the disk find the serup file and right click it and select "Run as Administrator".

Come back ones you have done that.

Thanks for your help. The cd opens and says cannot support this version of system. When googling Gigaware the only thing for drivers is a request to install 'Driver Manager' which is a farse

Hopefully someone will know about Group Policy and help me decipher what is preventing driver installation within the Group Policy whether as administrator or a user.

It's a policy and should be able to be changed to allow software driver installation regardless.

Um, If you get the error message that the system does not support the program you are installing. I would b quite sure that even if you bypass the Group Policy by disable it you will ones again run into the same problem.

Could you please give us information about the keyboard you are installin'. There are bilions of Media keyboards out there.

If you dont know the name of it alteast give us somne clues of how it looks and what brand it is.

Since the keyboard you might be trying to install does not support your Operating System. What do we know. Also please define to me what a Media keyboard is since most of the modern keyboards have fast buttons for media. Even my parents keyboard that where included with theyr PC 3 years ago had Media buttons.

The Keyboard

The keyboard was purchased at Radio Shack and is identified as ' Gigaware' USB multimedia Keyboard. Probably an older keyboard as it only has drivers up to XP Pro and Vista. But Win7 searches, finds and trys to install the proper drivers and ends up with the 'group policy prevents installation of this device' notice.

Do the media buttons work without the software then?

Also please try to find something here and see if you can find a keyboard looking the same as the one you have.

Thanks but I searched Google til my eyes were hurting. Nothing available and if you find something with that name, the site wants you to download that lousy ' Driver Manager ' software that sets itslf up on your computer.

Any chance you could give us a picture of it. Might be someone with the same keyboard or someone that reconise the keyboard.
