Installation Problem

I recently got my computer running again after the motherboard had been friend, obviously replacing the old one for new working one of a different model same manufacturer.

I have tried starting with a fresh install, but consistently running into errors. Some of which include

"Windows could not retrieve information about the disks on this computer."

"Boot Configuration is corrupt 0x460"

And screen randomly freezing and pixel breaking.

Overall this is very frustrating, and I'd really appreciate some insight. I filled out as much as I know about the PC in my profile. Tech level is novice, but not computer illiterate.

If you are trying to do a clean install have a look at the info below.

   Information

After you have made backups of everything you care to save and you want to do a real wipe "secure erase" to the Hard Disk Drive (HDD) have a look at this tutorial at the link below, it over-writes everything, all the old Windows code including the old Windows drivers, everything all data, giving you the best possible space to install Windows 7 to, it goes hand-in-hand with a clean install.

Thanks for those posts, I did in fact create a partition and completely cleaned the disk, but a blue screen has yet again occurred.

What could be the issue?

Exactly How did you clean the disk and format?

Does the HD register in BIOS setup? Which port is it plugged into? Check the SATA controller setting: set to AHCI first, then IDE if necessary.

Test your RAM with memtest86 for 5-6 passes.

Already reset CMOS earlier, that didn't help, still blue screen.

Grabbing Mem test and HD scans.

I used the method in barefoot kids post to clear the HD.

Did you install the mobo yourself or have someone do it? I would have them check it over next. Particularly the ports being used and SATA controller settings for your HD.

In reality this is my friend's PC, I just made the account because I have been attempting to help him. He installed the new motherboard and put all his components in.

He says it'd didn't come with a disc for motherboard support and he had to manually find the bios update for it on another pc.

Mem test 8 times no errors.

What I do when I don't want to waste any more time troubleshooting install problems is remove HD from problem machine, install in another computer, return to problem machine where it will often start up, change out all drivers while requesting several restarts.

If not, boot into Safe Mode to change chipset and display driver to start. Try running Startup Repair from DVD repair console.

Paragon Adaptive restore will remove all drivers from HD before starting. Acronis 10+ will remove drivers from an image before applying it to HD.

I took your advice and had my friend install windows 7 32 bit on another computer then put the hd into the "Problem PC."

Blue screen is occurring when attempting to boot the computer x00000083.

This is getting a tad bit frustrating.

Did you follow the steps above if it won't start?

Also, put the HD back in other computer and remove major drivers in Device manager: chipset, SATA controller, display, network, sound, cpu, etc. Don't restart when prompted, just power down to remove HD to return to prob machine.

Be sure friend unplugs other HD>
