Installation Problem

Days later I'm still struggling with this ACPI thing.
There's an option in the BIOS of my modo under power management relating to the ACPI table. The context help says set to enable if using a 64bit OS I do this save and for some reason it goes back to being disabled.

What is the relevance of this ACPI crap anyway and why does it have to be in computers? I've never had this problem before.

I wonder if your MB battery is weak, cheap to replace for a few dollars ;)

Thanks Doc

I'll go down to the store and replace it on Monday. I use the box as my TV and movie center so it is on most of the day, guess a year of that has taken its toll.

Does the 32bit Vista require less power from the MB battery or something? I know 64bit is more fussy about hardware and drivers.

I just noticed in your specs you have a PCI Tv board. I remember not too long ago, somebody removed their TV board & Win7 installed with NO problem. They let it run for a while to get any updates, then re-installed the TV board & everything worked :)

Yeah, I tried that, removed everything except the hard drives, dvd, and anything built into the modo. Same issue. It appears to complete the install but then when it tries to login for the first time, it automatically starts to shutdown then reboots to the acpi bootloader issue. Perhaps I've done something fatal to my MB and may have to change the thing at this rate because even Ubuntu 9.04 64bit failed to boot after install granted it was looking for Grub. Just trying opensuse 11.1 64bit to make sure before trying the battery on Monday.

Even reseting CMOS before and after install hasn't helped.

One last thought for tonight. Take the battery out of the MB & the power cord is disconnected from the computer or from any AC power source for at least 1/2 hour. This should clear the BIOS back to default setting. I have had to do this before, so as to get a clean start with the MB. Then I start all over & try again.
Make sure you set Bios to the current time & date after this clearing when you restart computer. Trial & Error Testing !
