Installation stops during Completing Installation step

When doing a clean installation Windows 7 everything seems to work fine until the middle of the Completing Installation step. At a point in it the installation says "Setup will continue after starting Windows" and the system begins a reboot. It shuts down, starts the reboot, has the Starting Windows message showing, the four little spots of color move around and grow larger and then merge into the windows symbol but then all action stops. No hits on the HD and the CD reader stops.

Any suggestions about what is causing the problem or what to do?

I suspect the video driver. can you boot into safe mode? if so you can get and install the driver for your card. You could really help by finishing your system specs when you resolve your current situation

Thank you for your quick reply. No it will not boot up in safe mode. It gets to a point where it is loading some drivers and then stops.

The computer is a Toshiba Satellite M45-S355. I have run the Windows 7 Tool program on it and it said there should be no problem loading Windows 7 but that I may need to update some drivers after installation for some functions to work properly. It seemed to be talking about some of the special buttons which I don't care about anyway.

I will attempt to complete the information about the computer now.

I had these types of problems on a couple machines. Just clearing the cmos fixed it in both cases.

Of course I had to re-enable my sata drives and other important parmeters but it fixed the installation problems first time I tried.

I had a similar problem twice: once it was the processor and there was no solution rather than replacing it. It was an AMD 4200+, so it doesn't seem to be the case here.
Second time (another machine) was patience, I had to wait ~20 minutes or half an hour until anything happened. Then the installation continued normally. I am not saying it always happens, I have seen several ppl saying it gets stuck there forever, but it might be worth trying to just wait a bit.

I appreciate the suggestion but alas I have let it set overnight and it did not restart.

have you run the upgrade advisor to make sure your computer has the minimum requirements?
99% of the time failed installs result from a badly burned ISO. where did you download the win 7 image from and how did you burn it? what app did you use to burn it? and did you burn the ISO file or drag and drop the folders?

Zeuz, I see your HD configuration is: 3 Sata And 1 Ide 2X250Gb 1X500GB 1X1.5TB
Are the 2x250Gb in Raid? Is the Mobo configuration compatible with your HDDs config?
Also, have you tried to install using only one HD connected? That might not be a permanent solution, since you want to use the other drives, but you coudl come closer to the root of the problem
Can you find your Mobo's brand / model?

I ran the Windows 7 tool and it said it would work on my laptop. I have used the same copy of Windows 7 RC I got from Microsoft and burned the iso using Nero to install on another laptop and was successful on it.

It looks like I have solved my problem. I disconnected the Ethernet connection. I went into the Bios and set it to default, saved it and started the install process. During the install process I told it I did not want it to check for updates during the install. It completed the install then. After booting up and getting connected to the Internet it is now downloading updates.

I did some more experimenting and it seems that unplugging the Ethernet connection is the key.
