Installation time of Windows 7

I installed windows 7 but it took over 8 hours to complete the installation.

What did I do wrong and how long is it suppose to take to install Windows 7?

took me about 30 mins. to do a clean install. without your system specs no one's
going to be able to help you .

Mine took longer than 30 minutes, but certainly not EIGHT hours :shock: Maybe your DVD was hardly readable for your DVD drive?

Upgrades are longer than clean installs. Also the older your hardware is the longer it will take. But yeah 8 hours is a little too long.

Actually, I think the majority of the time is spent gathering information about your apps and such.

I upgraded my HP (Compaq 2710p) Tablet PC - all it has on it are O07, JDK 1.6, NetBeans, JCreator, GrabIt, Adobe Acrobat, Firefox 3.1b2 and Cygwin - but it took over 3 hours to complete due to it going through the gathering apps and settings stage for almost 2 hours by itself....

Thus why an upgrade is longer generally than a clean install

Right - but except for that one process, the rest of the installation process proceeded at a normal rate - considering it was on a U7600 with 2 GB of RAM on a 4200 RPM SATA drive compared to the rig in my system specs - a significantly faster rig....

I first installed vista on a P4 with 512mb ram. Took 3 hours. 5 if you count the failed installation attempt

Wow - My P4 2.0 with 1 GB of RAM took just under and hour....that was RC 1 ....

Fresh install about 20-25 mins disc to desktop.

well 1 gig is a significant difference. And I was upgrading.

I went 15-20 mins disc-to-desktop, clean install. SysSpecs in bottom-left of this post.

Same. It took me 15 mins to install from USB and get started.

Upgraded from a brand new clean install of XP (Dont ask) and it took about 45 mins.

Athlon 64 3700+ 4GB RAM, old-ish DVD drive.

Win 7 Installation time

Hi everyone

I found my prpblem! When Win 7 was installed the first time, I stopped the install but noticed a 200mb partition created by Win7. This 200mb I deleted when I restarted the installation. That action created my 8 hr problem.
So I deleted everything and started from fresh with the installation and it took only 40 min to install Win7!

I noticed Win7 deleted this 200mb partition after the installation was nearing completion.

Windows 7 deleted the 200MB Partition?? I don't think so. I understand you won't see it under My Computer because it is used for the boot partition. Similiar to linux to keep the boot options seperate from the system files incase of errors or corruption you can easily repair your boot partition rather then having to reinstall the whole OS and all your programs again. This is the explaination for the 200MB partition. and to answer your question about how long it should take. I timed my install with build 7000 and it took 20 min and 18 seconds.

Fresh Copy of win7/7000 Took around 2o minutes to be full installed For Normal Desktop PCs, otherwise check your System Compability.
