Installation worries?!

Hey everyone, new here so please be patient!

I recently purchased Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit OEM. I had a new custom build with AMD Athlon II X3 435, 4gb DDR3 1333 and an MSI 770 C45 Motherboard. I put the dvd in the drive on the first install and everything worked perfectly. Perfectly until it hung on installation. I left it for hours and hours and it was still frozen.

Long story short, I tried *everything* and i mean everything, and it would refuse to get past the same screen. I managed to get past that one screen once, but the installation froze on 'installing updates' at which point it froze again. I returned the cpu, mobo and memory to the vendor, and swapped it for an Asus P5P41D, Core 2 Quad E8300 and 4gb of Corsair DDR2 800, having heard of various possible problems with the Athlon's integrated memory controller having issues communicating with DDR3.

So basically I have one thing to contribute and one thing to ask.
Firstly, I would advise caution to anyone looking to install a fresh copy of windows 7 64 bit onto their PC (new build) with similiar or same hardware specs. It was horrific, I was tearing my hair out and even my local computer specialist could not make sense of it.

And secondly, will the new hardware make a new installation more likely to succeed? I really need some encouragement here because I haven't got a PC until this works! I'm writing this on a friends laptop!

I understand your pain. I had an install that took me 8 days. the only question I have is did you use the same win 7 image for all the attempts? I have seen 'real' 'legit' ms dvds fail like that. it is a long shot but hey, before you spend money.

There isnt anything in your hardware that shouldnt work but it could also be something as stupid a a ram stick.

New hardware is only better in so far it is different hardware, and maybe faster.

If you want to lose some more hair maybe we can walk you thru a few oddball things. We have enough odd balls here

Hah, well I think this is the first time I'm *not* happy to see someone else has the same problem! It's horrendous isn't it...How did you get it sorted in the end? I'm using a proper retail version of windows, I bought it from ebuyer.com. It's not an upgrade and it hasn't been burned onto the disk. So there's no guarantee of it working on intel.....wow. I mean, have you heard any compatibility issues with Amd's chips? Anything the core 2 quad would be immune from?

Not enough data to specify which amd with which ddr3. just anecdotal. after seeing 100 cases with the same outcome you have to wonder. My problem was a bad stepping CPU. replaced the cheapest first and of course it was having none of that.

So I got what I wanted at twice the price and had half the brain cells left. A bargin

Next time, borrow the friend's laptop to open a Topic in this forum as the issue presents itself so we can help you through it.

Others have been there and can often tell you how to get around roadblocks.

Be as specific as you can in title of topic. Take a minute to word it correctly to get help from those who recognize the issue and can speedily get your install back on track.
