Installed a card marked "Modem Blaster" in my PC...

I am putting an older PC together from 3 partials & I installed this card because my sound was not working & it has Sound & Video ports on it & so I thought it might be a sound card. But It also has a phone line in & I believe a Ethernet plug in.

After running Windows Update all of my issues, including no sound were resolved.


I believe this card is a Dail UP modem & I would not use Dail Up if it was the only way left to get online...I would never surf the web again!

I just need to know if I need this card for anything besides a dial up connection?


I need some advice from someone who knows their stuff, as I only know enough about computer hardware to be able to really mess one up!

I really doubt it. From what I can find at best the audio jacks on that card are not for use as a sound card but for a headset/microphone to use the modem as a telephony device.

Even if it was a dual purpose card, there wouldn't be any drivers for it as looking at some of the modems listed on Creatives download pages, they were all declared end of life 7-8 (or more) years ago and any sound card capability would be in the same boat.

Looks like is you want sound on the old rebuild you're going to have to pick up a cheap sound card that has at least Vista support.

I need to know if it'0s just a dial up modem card or if it's something use full, so I know whether or not to remove it from my system.

Creative made a combination sound card and dial up modem. If your motherboard has on board audio, you can get sound via the motherboard's sound output jack, provided that the on board sound is enabled in the BIOS. If your sound is currently being supplied through the motherboard's output jack, then you can remove the Creative card.

Thanks so much, I was almost positive it was not needed in my system, that it was a dial-up modem, but I needed to get someones opinion that knew what they were talking about.

What are your speakers or headphones plugged into on that system.

That's what is providing you sound....

I have a managed to get old sound cards working in 7, tracing it back to the real model is the trick, and it's usually printed somewhere on the card itself and finding the generic driver/suite for THAT card.
