Maybe the colour deep of your screen has been lower. Check it out by right-clicking on the desktop and choose screen resolution.

Have you checked cable connection between your PC and your monitor?

However, a game or an application cannot affect BIOS messages colour

I don't think that the game could corrupt a graphic driver. However, try to update it to see if it helps.
Don't use Windows update if your graphics card is Geforce or ATI, but use www.nvidia.com and www.ati.com

Hmm. I have Ages of Empires installed on Windows 7 & it works flawlessly. When you uninstalled/re-installed did you remove/install back all componenets related to the game? Have you configured your game settings to something different than what you use regularly?

Don't use Windows update if your graphics card is Geforce or ATI, but use Welcome to NVIDIA - World Leader in Visual Computing Technologies and Advanced Micro Devices Inc.

Games should only do this only when you play them.

What you are going to need to do is figure out what files are part of your video cards drivers. The .DLL, .DRV, .INF etc. files, then uninstall the driver from within Windows. Next boot on your Ubuntu disk and delete the video .DLL, .DRV, .INF files (NOTE: just the ones for the video card). Now reboot in to windows and it will load the Generic Video Driver from Microsoft. At that point you can install the correct ones from the web site. This should fix the problem because you will really replace the drivers. Many times uninstalling and reinstalling does NOT delete the files so if one is corrupt the problem remains.
