^^ Anyone know how I can solve this? Task manager reports only 1 GB is in use, I think the second GB would really give me a boost to play League of Legends.

Any help would be great.

Hi Mestitia and welcome to Windows 7 Forums

Is this a laptop or desktop? How much memory does the BIOS report as being installed?

I couldn't find anything in the BIOS about the amount of RAM, in control panel, system, it says 2, 1 usable. Task Manager only seems to be using 1GB.

Maybe my Bios is too oldschool :P

Edit: I took the RAM out and then put one stick in and in the BIOS starting screen it said DDR 400 single channel, then I restarted and put the second stick in and it said, DDR 400 dual channel. So it recognizes them I guess.

The Resource Monitor in the Task Manager says 1 GB is being reserved for use by the BIOS and some drivers for other peripherals.

Available 450 MB
Cached 426 MB
Total 1023 MB
Installed 2048 MB

OK, so the next question - are you using a system with onboard video, or a dedicated video card? The BIOS would allocate RAM to the onboard video depending on BIOS configuration, and video RAM on a dedicated video card *may* be reserved. Memory can also be reserved for PCI-X and PCI-E slots and cards, etc. Since you haven't filled out yoru system specs I can't tell you more about what to do other than to contact the PC manufacturer and have them figure out what the BIOS is reserving and/or how to avoid so much being reserved. Note this may not be possible, so keep that in mind.

I can tell you the system is running a ATI Radeon 9600 pro card, so it's dedicated, not onboard. I'm also having problems with getting up to date drivers that are compatible with windows 7, but I'll figure this out later.

This is an old Desktop I think the motherboard is an Abit AV8 third eye, the graphics socket(?) is AGP, not PCI Express or however it's called. Sorry for my noobness.

How do you have Maximum Memory in System Configuration set?

Best set to Zero (0) then reboot computer

The max memory box was unchecked as default, so I didn't touch it. I can confirm this situation was like this since I formatted and installed Windows 7 for the first time, so it wasn't because of tinkering.

Ok, gonna try to help a bit:

your motherboard:

Universal abit > Motherboard, Digital Speakers, iDome, AirPace, Multimedia

LastProducedBios :

BIOS ID:28

Support DRAM Command Rate adjusting function for ADA3700DKA5CF and ADA4000DKA5CF.
Enhanced compatibility with Areca 1110 PCI-X storage card.
BIOS compiled date: 05/07/2006

Bios Issue Date:2006/05/07

Universal abit > Motherboard, Digital Speakers, iDome, AirPace, Multimedia

Bios is the most crucial starting point.

After that if you know how to acess and change bios settings, disable all that you dont use , possibly ( com - paralel - etc )
