So the update was offered unticked, but I went ahead and installed it, over 4000 registry changes later, everything works . . . . After the reboot, Norton 360 needed another reboot to update itself. So 2 reboots later Windows cheerfully comes up with my copy of Windows isn't valid. Clicked get genuine, 3 seconds later everything is fine. I wasn't surprised about the announcement - it happened once before. It seems that 7 is a bit forgetful about the status of your license.
Will update gaming box next, followed by a clean install on another PC. I would go ahead and install this update. Sooner or later, Microsoft will push it on you, but you have nothing to hide - right? And yes, I spent a few hundred for this copy of Ultimate to clean install 7 onto the ultraportable in my specs, and it was worth it.
