My last heat sink (stock with processor) started going out about a month ago, I've had it with my processor for several years. I started having a couple blue screens during games so I got some software (Core Temp) to monitor my CPU temperature. it would occasionally climb upwards of 100c before I closed everything. So I managed it for about a month while I looked for and ordered a new heat sink and I didn't have blue screens for a while, while maintaining the temperature. Now I just installed the Cooler Master Hyper 612 Ver.2 and my pc runs fine on 0 Load. However 5 minutes or less of any game and my computer blue screens. I tried playing an old version of World of Warcraft and Heroes of the Storm. HotS crashed itself the first 2 times before BSOD on the third. I have run a CPU and GPU burn test with no issues and temps staying quite low compared to my last heat sync. This is a pretty fresh install of windows as i just got a new motherboard and SSD about a month back but as I said previously, I've been playing just fine for the most part on all this hardware and now that I installed the Heat Sink I am crashing. To the best of my knowledge the heat sink is seated properly and there is plenty of thermal paste, as this is not my first build of my computer. All the pins on the processor were intact and not bent upon installation either. My drivers SHOULD all be up to date but I don't know how to read the dump files and I am at my wits end for why I am still having problems..

Hello and welcome Cryotine first up mate you say this is a new motherboard so what media did you use to install Windows - for example was it the original board's copy?? (OEM)

If so then you are using a copy and it's key/code that would be tied to the old board and therefore not a legal copy you must either buy another copy/key or contact Microsoft via the phone and let them know the old board has died and will they let you use that key for the original copy of Windows (the OEM) on the new board. Generally speaking they are quite ok about you doing that - to a point because if you keep doing it then they will know you are on a con.

I used my original Windows CD and key, and yes it was telling me I couldn't activate so I need to call Microsoft and get them to unlock it. But I was still able to get the service pack and all the updates and all of my drivers so that wasn't the issue. I actually solved my problem and believe it or not it was an old network card. I just removed it from my motherboard and all of my issues stopped. what I find weird is that everything was working fine 3 days ago. thank you for the input though.

Yes mate you will get the SP1 and stuff like that if you skip activation and there is unless I am terribly mistaken they will allow about a months grace before they will contact you and let you know something is wrong by flagging your install with a non genuine notice. That grace period may even be shorter and you probably will have problems downloading updates.
Just keep in mind sometimes it depends on who you speak to at Microsoft because the call centres are now situated a lot of the time in an "overseas" and I had an experience where I was refused this privilege by some individual who was either having a bad hair day or couldn't understand what I was after ad second attempt a few days later I spoke to an obviously American operator who obligingly let me use the OEM again. The point is don't give up if the first attempt is knocked back.
Having said that I knew it was anetwork card because that dump flagged that Atheros driver and they are a manufacturer of those cards and I seem to remember thye have some deal with Qualcomm now.

Anyway you can always run the activation check to make sure you are ok with that copy you can use this

Did you use a high-grade thermal compound when you attached the heat sink to the CPU?

Arctic Silver 5 is an excellent thermal compound. You can find out more info here: http://www.arcticsilver.com/as5.htm

It is available on Amazon.com and other places as well.

I agree and personally I always use the preparation kit Arctic Silver Incorporated - ArctiClean

My method if I didn't mention it before is to prepare the surfaces with eth cleaner and redo I if you accidentally touch them - I use a finger inside a vinyl glove to ensure every square millimetre has a thin covering of compound the warmth of you finger should make the compound go well into the microscopic grooves and pits. The place a small rice grain spot of compound on the CPU and replace the cooler that small spot will "bleed out" to the edges of the two surfaces without making a mess an still gives enough medium to make good contact.
